sat nav in new 07 octavia

Featured Replies

Hi all

new here so sorry for any silly questions, bear with me.

Pick up my new 07 L&K octaavia dsg estate in 2 weeks, wanted factory sat nav but couldn't stretch that far :finger:

Been using tom tom for ages but don't like the vulnerability of it.

so regarding this mfd2 sat nav im unsure what i need.Ive read a lot on here but its all left me a little confused.

will i need any adapters for the wiring and trim?

will the parking sensor warning still work ?

Seen a few on ebay and they seem pretty good value now so i am hoping to get one this week,so any help info will be really appreciated.

Thanks

the next 2 weeks cant come fast enough

Welcome to Briskoda :)

Firstly have a search around mate, the MFD2 question is now a regular occurance. vrStu has an excellent website with full fitting instructions and part numbers for replacement facia plates.

you don't need any wiring adapters, your parking sensors will work but audio only, you will lose the visual display. MFD2 can't be fitted with the factory fit super duper sound system with the seperate amp installed.

Just stick MFD2 into the search forums and all will be revealed

Wot he said  . Thoroughly recomend the upgrade even if you do lose the visual for the parking sensors. Someone on here recently picked one up for £250 + carriage which is an absolute steal!.

Welcome to the forum btw :)

What's the MFD2 like as a Sat-nav?

It's obviously convenient but how does it compare in ease of use to a Tom-Tom?

Also what's it like just as a stereo? Is it better or worse than the Stream?

Cant give you a comparison to a Tom-Tom as I've never had one but once you've used an MFD2 a couple of times it's pretty straight forward and intuative. As a stereo radio/cd player I find it meets my audio satisfaction and is as good as the Stream but no better.

I'm not completely sure on that Tony.

I know it was apparently tried by one dealership for an owner but who's to say they really tried??

I'd like to try one and see.

I bought the MFD that they tried to fit to the dsp equipped car mate, so I am "fairly" sure they tried but sometimes I get the feeling that main dealers are in many cases LESS knowledgable than a lot of the regular poster's on here and certainly seem to know LESS about what can and can't be configured on the car's systems through their own diagnostics rig.

OT but I asked my dealer if they could configure the lights on feature when you unlock the car .......... apparantly that's not possible on an octavia .... is it Stu :D

All I can say is GOD BLESS VAG-COM, AND ALL WHO SAIL WITH HER!!

Yes I do recall :P

I have no idea what you are talking about Tony :P ;)
