Just got my Ferodo ds2500's

Featured Replies

The reason why I'm excited is after taking delivery (Thanks Demon Tweeks  ) I've discovered my current pads are infact DS performacne pads (DS2000) not ds2500's which is what I originally ordered agees ago.

Now just need some super dot 4. fit them and then follow the bedding in insructions excluding the pit lane part

A trip to wales may be called for once its all fitted/sorted. :D

Intresting after some reading I think I've only managed to over heat the ds2000 a couple of times. Most of the time I've boiled the fluid.

Need to learn to drive.

I've got them on my Impreza.

- They're very good when used frequently and warmed up.

- Be aware that cold braking or even infrequent use in normal driving may not show them at their best.

DS2500's are the better pad for performance.....

I'm going to need a new set for my Brembo kit from Eddy "soon" - Will put the ones on now, but I'll need new ones within 5,000 I suspect. Making sure to include a dot5 brake fluid change too.

you want 5.1 not dot 5 surely jason.

Have a look at the brake thread sticky in the maintenance section

Jason.. if your still using dot4 just stick to it.. dot 4 and 5 are incompatible.. so youd need to flush the brake system to change to dot5... tbh superdot 4 is a better choice..

Oh.. yeah..

the DS2500 are great pads.. i had them before i put the tarox strada's ive got on now... the DS2500 are definately better... the tarox need a good prod to give nice bite, but they tend to fade slightly quite quickly...

DS2500 however... the hotter they are the better :D - just make sure you clean your wheels reguarly.

One thing that is annoying me... ive managed to warp my discs AGAIN.. at the moment the average "straight" lifetime of a set of front discs for me is about 2 weeks..

im beginning to think there may be another problem somewhere thats causing it.

dont just go dot5.1 thinking it will be higher dry boiling temp cos it wont neccessarily be. Dot 5.1 (not 5-silicon) is just less hygroscopic so aborbs water less.

Motul RBF600 fluid is what I use to good effect. Cured my boiling brake issues on the badger wagen. Its dot 4. within 5'C of castrol SRF fluid which is muchos money in comparison (dogs danglies as it is-kerching to buy)

I had a similar problem with an XR4x4.......I ended up with 3 pairs of warped front discs after only a small mileage.

When I checked the hubs, I found the O/S was running .003" out of true.

I did intend to remove the hub and skim the face in my Myford lathe, but as a temp measure, I bolted up in turn all the warped discs to the O/S hub and checked the run out at the outer most edge with a DTI gauge. I tried each disc in every stud hole, until I ended up with a warped disc that when mounted in the correct position, actually ran true by counter acting the .003" hub run out.

It worked 100%, so well in fact it was still runing like that when I sold it on 4 years later :D

Well brakes are all fitted. Fluid changed as well with Dot 5.1 again as I already had an unopened bottle. Like said above dot5 is not compatible with the others. With dot 5.1 you have to change it more frequent than dot 4. Many time I've boil'd the normal dot 4 and then 5.1 after a few months. Will be changing it to Super dot 4 in the future. Maybe before June 1st ;)

Got the DS2000 to overheat at Angelsey and once or twice on a b road run.

Hmm might have to get that checked as its pretty annoying, and the calipers are actually catching on the disc, so i get a squeak-squeak-squeak as i crawl down the road.
