1.8TFSI replaces 2.0 FSI

Featured Replies

Might this lead the way for the vRS TFSI to be upgraded to 220-240bhp as on the Golf Edition 30 and Leon Cupra?

Besides the new Fabia,
Can't imagine Honda being too impressed with the choice of name!

You'd think they would have learnt from the whole "RS" "VRS" thing

They've realised it's the only way they can get to the top spot of the TG Survey ;)

Chris

It's not the cars name but the new class of Rallying, as in Super 1600, WRC, S2000.

It's supposed to be a lot cheaper and straight forward than a full blown wrc spec.

Also, aren't Touring Cars going the S2000 route as well?

Yeah, back to standard non sequential gearboxes amongst other things.

Ah ha - so DSG g'boxes are NOT the way forward.

Could this mean a new 1.8T 4x4? Now that would be very interesting news!

Is this "new 1.8T" the same old trusted unit that's been used for donkeys years? Which is a good thing if it is IMO. :)

Now its a 2.0 TFSI that has a slightly smaller capacity.

The old 1.8T doesnt meet emission regs thats why it was replaced by the FSi engine.

Incorrect. The new 1.8TFSI is a completely different engine, it's a little lighter as the 2.0T and has several different/less components. That means it's cheaper in production and also easier to maintain for the mechanics including some other major changes. A nice one for example is that the 1.8T now has only one oxygen sensor, the second sensor isn't needed anymore since the MED17 (2.0T is MED9) now calculates the necessary values itself.

I stand (or rather sit) corrected.

As a rule the staff in the dealer network usually find out this sort of technical information when we first see them in the workshop broken down...lol

If it is similar to the 1.8TFSI announced for the Audi, then owners can say goodbye to cambelt changes. Read on:

I wonder if this engine would make its way into the Fabia vRS :rubchin:

I doubt not :(

If it is similar to the 1.8TFSI announced for the Audi...

Same engine, yep.

Is no one else excited by the fact that there should now be a direct replacement for their mk1 4x4? I came to the conclusion that no new car could offer what my 4x4 does, with a bit of mapping and some suspension the mk2 4x4 1.8T will be ideal.

Don't expect too much from the 1.8T there is a reason why it replaces the 2.0 FSI and doesn't get introduced as a new engine. :)

Theresias, are you saying that its unlikely to liberate the same bhp/lbft that the old 1.8T did via a remap? Same capacity, same turbo, why not - the fuel side?

Skoda is not going to mount 1.8 TFSI in 4x4 or automatic versions. I asked it from Mlada Boleslav and the answer was:

Dear Mr. xx,

the engine 2,0 FSI 110 kW was replaced by 1,8 TSI 118 kW. This change is only in the Octavia model line not for the Octavia Combi 4x4, Octavia Scout and the automatic versions.

Best regards,

Mr ...

boooooooo

I'm with you DaveH.

I want 4x4 with the chance of at least 200BHP either from new or from mods.

boooooooo

Actually could the turbo and associated bits just be added to the 4x4's 2.0 FSI?

That sucks! Why though, surely the 4x4 would benefit the most from some extra low down torque? And it'll cost Skoda more to manufacture lower volumes of more engines.

The 1.8 TFSI in the chinese octavia only comes with an auto gearbox, go figure!

Then why is Skoda offering it on their Czech website?!

As far as I am aware the 1.8T in the Chinese version is still the old MPI and not a TFSI.
