I do!

Its going to be VERY slow.

I do!

Its going to be VERY slow.

Not necessarily: Denis has quite a nippy example.

Welcome, Nat32 :wavey:

75bhp and nearly 15s to 60, not exactly nippy.

I really gave one a good testdrive today on open road - and TBH the power is better that the vitara, because quite simply the vitara is too heavy for the engine size to pull, even on a flat road. I got an immediate response from the Octavia 1.4, which with regards to reliability is what you need.

Unfortunately, the car I wanted went from under my nose, apparently it was sold already, even after I got a verbal deal done..............but I don't believe that - i think they just made a bad deal, and wanted to get out of it quick............

out of interest why go for a 1.4? is it a pure money thing?

i think the 100bhp 1.6 or bigger would be better in the long run and pull easier with passengers and a boot full of shopping. what about one of the TDi's for a general run about?

Welcome from me too. :D

Hi there,

I see your from Ireland...you have a PM :)

Greetings fellow country man:thumbup:

The 1.4 Octavia is a good motor its a lot more responsive that one would expect:D

Welcome to briskoda

Top of the mornin' to you.

And no-one who's replacing a Suburban Useless Vehicle with a proper car is mad!

I'm also new to this forum, I’ve got a 2001 Octavia 1.4 16v classic that has always had somewhat surprising performance considering the size of the car compared to the size of the engine. You would expect motorway driving to be an issue. Peak torque is at a lowly 3300 ie just under 70 mph, if you put your foot down at this speed it pulls very well indeed. I can easily accelerate from 70 to 90+ up steep French motorway hills(fully laden!). The only problem with the engine is that it won’t rev much beyond 5200 rpm, but actually you don’t need to! Economy is a plus, from new I averaged about 42mpg on my 64 mile round trip commute at 70k this had risen to 47mpg.
