Door carrier leaking - photos?

Featured Replies

Does anyone have a photo of the Fabia with a door card removed? Mine's in again today having the N/S rear re-done after they failed to fix it last week and I'm curious as to what it looks like...the leaky bit etc.

I don't want to take the door card off myself as they never go back on the same.....the clips bust etc. They're always a nightmare.

Thanks,

Chris.

i have fixed my rear leaking doors and it is impossible not to bust a few clips!

there was a technical guide somewhere on here , but i can't find it , Lummox did it iirc

Excellent article Stu...

If the dealer doesn't fix this when it goes in in a couple of weeks, I'll do it myself... Looks a piece of cake :)

All credit to the big fella really - but thanks anyway.

This is the revised plan where there is no need to remove the covers.

Outstanding......that's exactly what I was after. Brilliant.

So that's what the dealer does eh? Hmm.....no more removing the carrier.

Looks a doddle. In which case, I wonder why they couldn't get it right first time on my N/S rear?

does putting sealant on really work i have seen a few threads on here where people have tried that and i hasnt worked + the previous owner of my car had also done the same thing and it never worked and there was a hell of a lot of sealant on it.

The sealant is only as good as the preperation and the manner it is applied.

do both sides leak or is it normaly one side i have only ever heard the n/s leaking

All four doors can/do leak.

There appear to be 2 different methods of doing this. There is the easy way - Fabia-vrs.com - Re-sealing Fabia Rear Ancillaries Carriers and the harder way which removes the carrier and replaces the foam seal with putty like stuff. Which is better?

I have used both methods although with standard silicone and building putty rather than the recommended products.

The method you link to is the current approved method.

A :bump: to this as I've realised both of my rear doors are leaking now; I suppose there's been enough rain!!

Stu - the guide appears to have disappeared from your website? Is it possible for it to return?

Cheers,

Steve

You know, I thought I was lucky with as everything else has gone wrong with my Fabia except this. I take it in to get a window switch sorted and get told all four of my doors are leaking.

My car MUST have cost them money. All the margin has been taken up in warranty repairs!

Surely the dealers *like* doing warranty repairs? I think they get paid for them by SUK don't they?

And now I'm worried, Lummox said all 4 doors 'can/do' leak ? If I get my nose down ther in the carpet and take a good look will I be able to tell easily, and is it possible that mine don't leak? (sorry Lummox, how widespread is this leak!?)

Does the leak appear after time (older cars more prone?)

Cheers,

Andy.

You will know as your carpets will get wet.

And dealers genrally dont like doing warranty work as the manufacturer pays very little (piddly labour times at a reduced rate) for the repair.

For example Skoda pay 1.6 hours (just over an hour and a half) to remove and install a complete Fabia dashboard, yeah right.

The sealant is only as good as the preperation and the manner it is applied.

In all this rain, I'm having a few drips again! :( I admit I only applied sealant along the bottom edge of the door carrier plus a couple of inches up each side, and not as far up as in Stu's guide - but I did everything else as described, and even squeezed as much water as I could out of the foam sealant before I started...

So I'm thinking, yes, it may well be my fault for not sealing far enough up, and I may have to get out the Plumber's Mait to do a temporary fix until it's dry enough to do it properly.

But I'm also wondering whether the sealant isn't sticking too well to either the painted metal of the door or the bare metal of the carrier. Another possibility is that there are clip holes BELOW the bottom edge of the carrier, which are sealed even more feebly than the carrier itself (a little neoprene washer, compressed by the tension in the plastic clip.) So maybe they're leaking, seeing how wet it's been lately...

Annoying thing is, SWMBO's 51-plate Fabia's dry as a bone!

Mine appear to be bl**dy weird.

They (rear doors) both leaked in the torrents we had at the end of May, beginning of June. Cue massive condensation on the windscreen etc. Little puddles on top of the door seals and plastic trim, damp carpets under the rear mats.

This time around.... Nowt, not a sign of a problem.

At least it's not like a mate's Fiesta, where the rear door sounds like a shaker maker 'cos it's full of water. :D Doesn't leak into the car though :(
