power!!!!!!!!!!!!

Featured Replies

quick question.

the power stearing on my 98 hatch, is abit twitchy and light when at high speeds (all the time). was wandering if there is any way i can firm it up? not to fussed if it makes it stiffer at slow speed, as i never drive slowly :D :D

O, and has anyone done a short shift on a felicia gear stick. planning to do to mine.

Just disconnect the PS pump from the rack and he-man it!

as for the short shift- never heard of it being done, but may be a sterling mod if you can figure it out (post it up;-)

was thinking along the lines of heavear ps fluid. and ideas:confused:

will post pics of the short shift when i figure it out.

check out the guides section - see if the DIY short shifter mod looks of interest...

Cheers

yer been there, thats what gave me the idea. but the felicia has a skrew on type kn0b, not the slot type one fo the furby

I have noticed the same with the power steering - just hang on tight mate - it gets more adreneline pumping!!!

I haven't got Power Steering  I've got arms like a gorrila [ Black & hairy ] Can you not drain the power steering fluid out and put Treacle in or even Marmite. :)

Felicia is nice and light!

Oddly enough, the power steering on our felicia is not nice and light at all, and never has been in the 100,000 miles we have covered. Mind you its not wandery either.

On our first Favorit we had the steering swivels greased after about 80,000 miles when the steering had tightened up, and boy did that lighten up the steering even though it had no Power Steering. It was a different car after that

Makes yer think..might get round to trying it on the felicia...or paying someone to do it..I'm getting past crawling underneath these days.

I confess I bought another Alfa this week:eek: to add to my 164 3 litre 24valve (which has to be sold sadly:( ) I've bought a 2.4JTD 156 Sportwagon in Luvverly condition:D

Alfie 168

 nice one on the JTD alfie

pity you have to get rid of the 164:thumbdwn:

Thanks Woody, I'd happily keep the 164..my third in 16 years, and I've got this one mechanically A1 over the last four years..but its space. Three cars and the works van i can cope with, four is too many..there is a Kia Sorento as well which is our tow car and long distance bruiser cruiser...The Skoda Felicia is being held onto for the kids.Anyway I'm not quite sure what happened, we were supposed to be down sizing to two cars and a van..and I hit a button on ebay for the JTD....Stupid Boy Pike:confused: :thumbup:

Alfie 158

when at high speeds (all the time).

:D :D

i conerted one of my felicia's back to manual steernig to save a bit of weight, and to reduce to parasitic losses a little...... it's a dead easy job to do as well

dont bother with the shart shifter.... skoda gearboxes are **** at the best of times, and a short shifter will lead to premature knackerage:)

to late! did the short shift 2day, and man does it make a differance. quicker more posotive and all in all nicer to drive. photos coming soon.

as a matter of interest what did you do to your 002 box to make it a 'short shift'?? did you make the gear stick shorter or something??

yep, thats all you need. the companys that make the fancy (expensive) ones, tell you you need all these fancy counter weight and stuff. but thats all a load of bull to make you buy theres insted of making your own. took it out for a b-road bash today, it realy makes things quicker and more posotive.

if you just shortened the top of the stick, then you wont have changed the length of the throw below the pivot, merely made the ratio between above and below the pivot shorter-so therefore more effort required to engage a gear?

yer, your right it makes engaging the gears a little firmer, but in a nice possotive way. and it does also reduce the distence the gear stick has to moves, to go between gears.

yeah it reduces the distance ON TOP, but not at the business end...

IE the shifter travels the same distance to engage the linkages.

its all relative. by making the top shorter, the bottom becomes longer relative to the top. the angle between the stick being forword and back (say 3rd and 4th) is the same. but your nearer to the pivet, so the length of the travel is shorter.

any more questions???

I'm no debating the movemnet of the top is shorter, just that to make distance between THE GEARS shorter, you actually need a longer bottom end and a stock top end. at least on the e30!

you can do it both ways. reduce the angle of travel. or reduce the length of the stick. similer out come.
