Tyre sizes for MK1 vRS

Featured Replies

I am about to replace my Toyo Proxes TR1 205 50 ZR17's. I'm lucky, I have a source for getting these at trade price. However, last time I was offered a different size at a considerable saving, but shyed away from these at the last minute.

This time I am looking to save some money and am looking for comments, good or otherwise, from people who have fitted alternatives like 225 45 ZR17's or any other size for that matter.

Many thanks in advance.

Change to 22/45/17 when the 205/50/17 needed replacing.

No problems....I found the steering to be heavier and had more feel...which I preferred. grip also imroved but I would say that was more due to the tyre I used than the increased contact patch.

You will see a slightly drop in mpg as a downside.

Do it!

I changed mine about 900 miles ago to toyo 225/45's and the grip is simply amazing  .

Lately I've had the chance (in between the cack weather) to give it some beans around the lanes and it just sticks like **** to a blanket! Very responsive and plenty of feed back.

Have noticed a slight drop in mpg now it's mentioned but I always get rubbish mpg anyway as all my driving is town or back lanes  .

OK I know, I'm a wimp. I've ordered the standard size tyres. It would have saved me about

The "skoda" specced tyres have nothing to do with anything other than a monopoly for the manufacturers in that 205/50/17's ar emore expensive!

Plenty of vrs's came from the factory with 225/45 fitted as far as I am aware and they are not the only car maker to do similar.

Each to their own, I know I'm happy with my choice!

I switched to 225/45 recently and will NOT be going back!

Big difference in the characteristics of the car - for the better.

Pretty damn sure you wouldnt have seen a MK1 vRS with 225's from the factory.

I have 2 sets of tires onmy car: 205/55/R16 GY HydraGrip and 225/45/ZR17.

I recommend this sizes for good ! Especially the 17's...
