VRS Oil Pressure

Featured Replies

hi all, i have just plumbed in my oil pressure gauge and took the car for a drive. it all moved nicely as expected but the oil pressure seemed high.

at idle its at 29 psi (2 bar) and then goes all the way up to around the 90 psi (6 bar ish) when its flat out.

is this about right for the octy?

Thanks for your help

Yea that sounds about right if i recall correctly.

Glad to see you got it plumbed in though

Might get mine done tuesday if im lucky

How/where did you plumb it in?

IIRC max oil pressure when warm is 7 bar so yeah sounds right to me.

Haynes states 2.0 bar at idling and 3.0 to 4.5 bar at 2000 rpm for the 1.8 litre engine. Pressures quoted are for an oil temperature of 80°C. I couldn't find any similar info in Aotodata CD2.

if you take your plastic engine cover off and look between the third and fourth inlet pipe on the inlet manifold and look down it you will see the top of the oil filter casing. on the top there is a silver bolt with a 5mm allen key in the top. take that out a plumb the adapter and hose in to that. really quite easy.

although i must admit it was a bit tight getting my hand down there to screw the adapter in. its really awkward and fiddly.

but its a simple enough job to do.

Thanks for that, will save me a lot of head scratching I think! :D

if you have trouble. let me know!!

Did you remove the bracket like i did Andy or did you manage it with it on?

I couldnt get my fat hands in with the bracket on lol

TBH if you were worried about the oil pressure I would first get it checked with a known calibrated gauge.

Some of these aftermarket ones have been known to be way off.

Very true but mine are purely cosmetic and read roughly right so im happy enough

you and me both mattbeef. totally agree!!!

as long as its reads about the right sort of pressure. at the end of the day its not digital so there is always room for error and imperfections.

i left it all on. i have skinny hands and long fingers. i have about 30 cuts, nics and scratches on both hands from trying to get in there and do it. it is bloody fiddly down there with all sorts of pipes and wires ruinning around.

plus i know my car is running right anway.

first sign of trouble and im that moaning sod who worries about nothing :D
