Avoiding rusty brake discs

Featured Replies

As I usually cycle to work, my Octavia vRS gets to sit around for 4-5 days at a time. Sometimes it's not used for up to 2wks.

I've noticed the brake discs rust very quickly (couple of days) & if it's been a while I can hear them 'rubbing' when I first drive off.

Anyone have any ideas how I can minimise this problem?

Its not a huge problem, if its only a few days the rust will come off very quickly on first use

You can't, unless it is parked in a dry, airy garage. As Dodgy says oil would stop the rust, but not he car!

Why be bothered it happens to every single brake disc on every single vehicle in the land. So you get a rubbing sound for the first brake application, so what?

mine get an even rust coating after simply washing.. quite normal and nothing will stop it.

I'd agree, all you need is a bit of extra care when you first set off.

However once i did get to the end of my road in my old car and pushed the brakes and the car just carried on. All of a suddent the rust came off and the car stopped on the other side of the junction :(.... somehow missed everything

To be honest, the main reason it bothers me is because my alloys end up orange! :o

Oh well, I'll try to ignore it. Thanks for the replies.

In that case Autoglym alloy wheel sealer - will stop the rust sticking to the alloy wheel, also very good at reducing brake dust collection.
