Is this windscreen delamination?

Featured Replies

I've read a couple of threads about windscreen delamination problems on the Octy II - a milky band along the bottom of the windscreen.

I think I have the same problem - can someone please confirm this is what is is from the pics below.

I understand it should probably be changed under warranty. Do dealers do this themselves, or do they sub it out to Autoglass etc? If this is the case, I'm hoping they might be able to do it at my place of work so I don't have to mess about leaving the car at the dealers for a day.

Yup thats a lamination milking problem due to water/air entering between the two panes of glass because of poor manufacturing . Dont know if Skoda have the same QC rules as VW but VW dealers only refit VW glass and not 3rd party glass ie autoglass or anybody elses but they do use them to fit the glass they provide, this usually takes place at the dealership owning to needing to keeping old glass for inspection, supplying the new glass from the parts dept etc.

Yep looks it to me too.

As above I would insist on only OEM glazing.

Thanks for your replies chaps.

Do you think Ants will make me have the Roomster Scout demonstrator if I take it in to Simpsons?

Nah he'll be out cruising in it.

Thats a lot worse than mine, how old is the car. I mentioned it to my dealer the other day but he reakons the same would happen a New Windscreen, also that the paint might get damaged on replacement.

My Fabia rear screen has done this (mainly noticeable in the bottom corners, but all around it is doing it).

Getting it replaced next week... The only pain is that I'll have to get it re-tinted.

Coming up to two and a half years old - its an October 2004 (54 plate) and its done about 30k miles.

I might wait until late this summer and get it done jut efore the warranty expires if its likely to happen again.

I have the same problem with my 55 reg Octavia Sport. It's going into the dealer in the couple of weeks to have a new windscreen fitted.

if its likely to happen again.

I think it's pure rubbish that this is the case, I mean they know about it so if they replace it once and your warranty expires then our tough ****. Can they not just make the screens properly ? Surely theres some sort of Quality Control that should/could pick this up after production.
