Stage set for Fabia vRS

On the face of it, this is a rally special version of Skoda's new Fabia. But the S2000 on the firm's Geneva show stand had a lot more to it than that

By Ross Pinnock 15th March 2007

Rally version of new Fabia gets flared arches and a rear spoiler which could appear on firm

So it looks like a 140 Petrol & Diesel.

I know my choice.

Rumour control has this new 1.4 TSI supercharged engine from VW as fitted to Golf GT as "not such a good engine as one would expect"..anybody else heard this ..

That's the 170bhp application in the golf, fabia is unlikely to have this, 140 or 150bhp application is more likely.

You're right, about the golf, I had a go in the golf gt, power delivery is strange, does not feel like 170bhp either. For the small amount of extra money the GTI is soooo much better.

Think I'd go for the derv fabia if this is on offer

According to Jezza, it's as smooth as falling down stairs whilst wearing leg braces.

In all honesty I can't see a diddy little 1.4 being force fed air through both a supercharger and a turbocharger being smooth. It''ll be racious and stressed.

Even if it isnt, a lot will depend on the curb weight too IMHO :)

No doubt as per Octavia Mk2 vs Mk1 when it first came out, people will probably end up liking it. It may not be the same people that liked the Mk1 though, but still.

Will see at the time :D

I'm sure he said that about VAG Diesels?

There normally heavy! :(

Nope - it was in reference to the Tsi engine.

Car looks to be lighter then the current model, by about 100kgs for the petrols.

I haven't driven one, but afriend of mine drove golf GT with the 170 bhp version, and he loved it...... horses for courses I guess...

I have driven both versions of the Golf GT :-

1) The 170 Diesel is a cracking engine , it feels just like the furby engine, the kick of torque when the turbo comes in for me is better than the smooth delivery of the 140 Diesel.

2) The TSi engine seems just to lack that X factor in a car the size of a Golf, it would suit the smaller Furby/Polo.

The delivery was smooth like the 140 diesel, but actually felt like it was a 115 diesel in the larger body.

The one thing I find strange, is getting my head around paying 18K for a 1.4 car.

Don't really understand the TSI engine thing.

VW have a cracking engine in the 2.0 T FSI and they have some good diesels to.

I suppose the TSI offer ok economy with good performance but it's a uninspiring, the power delivery isn't smooth (I disagree with the above) and it does not feel fast (not the same amount of torque as the derv or 2.0T possibly??)

Don't agree with the above, new fabia won't be that much lighter than the Golf and I doubt that it will have the 170 application of the TSI. So it could offer the same problems as the golf

I just hope they do a derv as otherwise I'll look someone else for my next car (perhaps a second hand MK5 GTI :))

That TSI engine does look good on paper, with a Turbo and supercharger it will be lag free.

I agree with you guys at

Its all done for CO2 Emmissions so that comp car drivers opt for this over the GTi as it will save a lot in Tax.

FYI

Car GT 140

BHP 140

Torque 162lbf

CO2 169g/Kg

Tax 24% annual cost

not sure if this helps but when speaking to the salesman last week he said the new vrs will be 2 litre..... but then again i trust the guy as far as i can throw him at this point

He is talking about the diesel engine
