Tale of Woh, so Limp mode!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

2 main questions. Can your fabia be in limp mode with out displaying the EPC light?

Can Limp Mode effect the heaviness of the PAS as well as performace? (and can the car battery effeect the PAS)???

Events leading to above qustions.

3 weeks ago PAS completely failed. Changed Pump & Sensor..

I don't know if the brake switch puts it into limp mode but you should get it changed.

I would say 13v is not bad for engine running, and 11.8v reasonable for engine stopped but that's not to say that the battery is holding a good charge. It's not always about voltage but more so current.

I think you've covered the first things and that is the battery and the switch. Be carefull fitting the switch as I think you only get one chance.

From memory ,but check with auto electrician - would suggest that on charge with engine runing would be nearer 13.8 , possibly up to 14.5 (again from memory) - off charge - circa 12 v is about right , and voltage on startup would give an idea of the state of the battery ( as they get older internal resistance gets higher, and internal losses go up so output volts go down ).Another point - if starter fitted is pre engage type - with solenoid on starter - the solenoid switch can get dirty and drop volts - less than 0.5volt is ideal at startup. It used to be possible on older type of Lucas ones to get to switch ( copper bar ) and clean it up.

Hope this some use and not grandma about eggs.
