What problems to look for when buying a used Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

At the end of the month a friend of mine will be picking up my vRS in Germany (a March 2006 model), where he'll be checking for any problems in the car. It's

got a bit less than 4000 miles, has been used at the dealer's and it's got 1 year warranty left. I'm trying to make a checklist of the known main issues for

this model, so that they can fix anything there is to fix before bringing it over. What should he be looking for? From what I've read in the forum, these are

the main possible problems:

Mechanical

- Strange noise at one of the gears (2nd gear, right?)

- Engine stutter, noticeable when changing gear, just over 2000 rpm (2006 EGR breathing its own farts)

- Uncommon gearstick vibration

- Knocking noises going over bumps and/or when cornering (anti roll bar problem or just new bushes needed)

- "Moo'ing" rear brakes (German mad cows may have fiddled with my tasty green brakes)

Others

- Windows washers pumps

- Fuel filler cap internal release

- Buzzing from the speakers (speakers may have been abused by deaf drivers, or worse... Rammenstein fans)

- Check the rear floor for any signs of moisture (rear doors water leaking or last Oktoberfest celebrated in the back seat)

- Fraying seats or Fuzzing seat material

- Obviously check if all the optionals are working fine (a/c , heated seats, front lamp washers, cruise bla, bla bla)

Should he be looking for anything else?

I'll be updating the post with any known common issues you think I should add.

Right hand drive?

Kerbing of alloys.

Right hand drive indeed.

But then... I live in Portugal :D

Not deal breakers, but "moo'ing" rear brakes and fuel filler cap internal release are also worth checking :D

Thanks Chris.

It's doesn't hurt to check those things too.

I think everything's pretty much covered...

Sticking motorised air vents?

Sticking or stinking?

Sticking. Guess this comes from people reversing then switching off before putting in forward gear. When you reverse the air flaps go the other way and can stick in this position when you power off. So to speak. Not a big deal really.

Check oil.

&

Check water.

All diesels are susceptible to the two coming together.

Oh and check it`s left hand drive.

Thx Davy, thnx Mouse, it's good to know those little details. I've never seen the car and thanks to Briskoda, and you guys, I already know quite a lot about it!

Oh and check it`s left hand drive

That would make my life living hell whenever I wanted to overtake any fat woman on the side of the road!!!

I've checked the pics - the steering wheel is on the right side...

which is on the left :D

Sorry, now I got it.

When you folks wrote right/left hand drive, I thought you meant the side of the road, and not the side of the steering wheel.

Now it's clear why the rest of the world drives on the opposite side compaired with British roads. Everyone thought you meant the other side!!

Is this confusing or what?
