Alloy spare wheel? Elegance Estate

Featured Replies

Due to pick up our new Octavia Elegance Estate at the end of the week. There seems to be some doubt about whether the spare wheel should be alloy. The specification/advertising booklet states that an alloy spare is provided but the sales person is suggesting that 'It depends what comes out of the factory'.

Haven't seen the car yet but what's the situation if the spare turns out be steel?

As always I'd be grateful for comments/advice.

Spare on Elegance was certainly an alloy as standard when I got my car in October 05.

If it's says it's an alloy in the advertising literature I would expect an alloy to be provided.

What he said.

Ditto - but mine is a March '05 car so things may have changed?

Got one with mine - Its standard - Sounds to me like the sales person doesn't know his job !

Not an alloy spare if you have the Pegasus wheels, you get a 16" steelie instead.

Still, it's better than those stupid bicycle wheels you get as spares on Vauxhalls and the like.

Same here, as far as I know you get an alloy spare if you are on the standard alloys, if you upgrade to the 17"s then you get a steel spare

I found out that my car ('06 Elegance with Pegasus Upgrade) has a 16" steel. I was initially suprised but then checked the brochure which confirned this to be correct.

June 05 Elegance 2.0FSI hatch - alloy spare but saleman seemed surprised to find it.

So, putting on a 16" spare when the other three are 17", for instance, doesn't that sound a bit silly?

Guess it could be OK depending on the tyres - it may be they have the same (or very similar) rolling radius.

So is putting a space saver on.

However its only suppose to be a temporary solution.

My Superb has 17" alloys, but a 16" spare.

The 16" just has a higher profile tyre on it, so that the rolling radius remains the same as the standard 17" alloys. The spare is the same width as the standard tyres, so it's actually much better than some of these stupid space saver wheels you often see.

Bagpuss.

Just for the record collected the new car yesterday - it does come with an alloy spare. Car seems fine but only done 60 miles so far!

Slight hassle with dealer techs who stated that there was no way the nearside rear fog lamp can be activated or alarm bleep activated on locking/unlocking. Will present them with the relevant controller codes sometime next week!

Beware they are within their rights to charge you to change settings on the car, it does after all take on tech time.

They were asked to do these things as part of the new car set up including drive away locking (which they did do). Could be an interesting discussion!
