Furby SQ Front Speaker Suggestions?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I've already got an Alpine 9835 headunit which has decent sound and good pre-outs. Have sat at home an Alpine MRDM1000 class D amp that gives 1100watts RMS @ 2ohms. This is going to be powering an Alpine Type X sub (10"). I've also got an Alpine MRVF340 4/3/2 channel amp that gives around 120watts RMS in bridged mode (2 channel). I used to have the older Alpine Type R 6.5" components in the Clio and these were being run at 120watts RMS from the amp and they sounded great, if not harsh at the top end.

Question is, I'm looking for some front components that can 'SHOUT ABOVE' the sub and have great SQ too. I'm not really interested in running rear speakers so these need to be loud enough without distorting. Although I might keep the stock rear speakers and power them from the headunit.

I've been looking at the new Alpine Type R's and they have a higher power handling and seem shallower than the older model too:

Power Specification

Peak Power: 330W

RMS Power: 110W

Frequency Response: 65Hz - 27kHz

Sensitivity: 87dB, 1W/1m

Installation Diameter: 136mm

Depth: 59mm

I've also been looking at some Rainbow SLC2 Kick but worried they might take some work to fit due to the depth:

  • 2-Way Component system
  • 6.5 inch Woofer
  • 65 / 63 mm Mounting depth
  • Maximum 150 Watts

However I've been really interested in these bad boys (Boston Acoustics Pro60):

b_pro60.jpg

  • Speaker Size: 6-1/2"
  • Rated RMS Power Handling: 125 watts
  • Nominal Impedance: 3 ohm
  • Frequency Response (3dB in car): 50Hz-22kHz
  • Mounting Cutout Diameter: 5" (127mm)
  • Mounting Depth: 2-3/8" (60mm)
  • Mounting Depth with Spacer: 2-1/16" (52mm)
  • System Type: 2-way

(thanks CAD for the info :))

Has anyone had any experience with the above speakers, and are there any other suggestions at all? Not too bothered about price but want to keep it reasonable. As above, depth is an issue too. I just want to take the door cards off, fit some adaptor rings and slot the speakers in, and sound deaden the area behind. Focal's seem too deep otherwise I'd be very interested in those too.

hi there i had my door card of last night and im not very happy when i saw the amount of space i have to fit new speakers i had some type x alpines out of my lod car i love them so much i was gutted when they wouldnt go in they are about 70mm deep i have heard good things about mb quart rua-216 shalow mount speakers http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/5441.html wot do you think. I think i might be getting them hope they sound good when amped

also with the bostons you are looking at they say Mounting Depth with Spacer: 2-1/16" (52mm) the spacer makes the speaker stick out so you may not get the door card back on i thought about custom door builds but i want the stealth look any questions pm me i did take a couple of picys of the door with the door card off if they are any use to you i can email em to you

I had Rainbow SLC 265 Kicks in mine, fitted just fine with 30mm of MDF spacer!

If you haven't got a sub DONT go for the kicks - otherwise they are awesome speakers, brilliant mid-bass. :)

Tom if the Rainbows are good enough for you then they're good enough for me lol. How much power were you feedig them and were they able to shout over your sub? And did you manage to put the tweeters behind the grill?

mfatcow thanks but I have pics of the doors already :) tavia the pics in the links don't work :(

I've had my sub sat here for almost a week and it's crying out to be put in the furby. Just need to get hold of a 10" sub box (Motorworld has a sale on yay!) and work out how to put a huge monoblock in with a 4channel amp and have access to the spare wheel lol.
