Octavia II 2.0 TDI Sport - What should I look out for?

Featured Replies

Hey all

I'm currently looking at Octavia II 2.0 TDI Sports and I could do with some pointers on what I should be looking out for.

Are there any common faults yet on them?

I'm trying to get a low milage vehicle in either silver or black... If you know of any for sale, shout up

The previous owner may have left their pipe and slippers on the passenger seat? Something like that?

If you do buy a used one have a good look at the front tyres for signs of wear on the inside edge.

Hold your foot on the brake pedal (quite hard) and make sure it doesnt sink slowly to the floor. Ive had two new Octys do this now and both needed new brake master cylinders.

Dont forget to check the rear window washer, make sure its working and is not suffering with the dreaded leaking pipework in the boot area.

HTH.

Thanks guys (except S-Line :finger: )

I'll look out for those on the test drive.

So, DSG or no DSG? lol

DSG  If you spend time doing town work

if you go for non DSG check for juddery clutch - a common problem.

If you go DSG remapping could be a problem because of the boxes Torque limits. That is of course if you want to get a remap.

DSG for sure , test drive one and you will see why.

Hmm, plans have changed somewhat...

TDI vRS deposit down :)

Yeah, have you ever solved your clutch problem? What dealer said?

Not had it in yet. Have done 7500 miles now and better than it was, in fact most of the time you don't notice it - only when standing in traffic and even then it's not too bad.

I'm also a bit worried that if they stick a new clutch in that I'll end up with worse problems. I might just wait til the first service and mention it then.

and a good choice on the vrs Josh.....if I'd had the cash theres where it would have gone.

 You'll love it :)

Went to my local dealers last week to test a 2.0Tdi sport DSG on your behalf ;)

What can I say about the gearbox, Put your foot to the floor and it is alot quicker than the manual

But if you drive with a light foot the gearbox can get confused, If you push the throttle just abit to far at 20mph it will drop into first then change back up again.

Perhaps if I had a longer time with the car (only had it for 1hr ) you can adapt your driving style to make full use.

I know one thing, my next car will be DSG

Avarage over my test route of 35miles 47mpg

Your fine up to around the 280/90 lb/ft mark....

The 2.0TDI with DSG does map rather nicely from my experience :)

I've had mine for about 36k now and it seems to learn my style, or maybe you learn foot positioning, I'm not quite sure . Its certainly best to drive it in "manual" though, especially at motorway speeds where you try to accelerate then it drops 5th when it doesn't need to.

My Vrs Tdi has had the juddery clutch thing from new, have getting on for 13000 miles on it now and it doesn't seem to be getting worse, i get it when i'm accelerating away from an island at low revs, say 1100/1200rpm in 4th as well, so i don't tend to do that, i don't know if it's slippage but it doesn't seem to have any problems else where.

I mentioned it to my dealer at my 1st service just so they are aware of it.
