TIP fitted, noise change expected?

Featured Replies

Fitted a Samco TIP (Octy vRS) on Saturday and other than an initial problem with the trolly jack it all went well. Just the exhaust to go on before the remap in April.

Having not done this before, is it normal for their to be a fairly significant change in noise? I can hear the turbo whistle more, the re-circ valve seems quieter and less tsssshhhy (sounds better IMHO) and the induction noise is also slightly muted. I was just worried that it was loose on the turbo side and sucking in air directly.. but.. I've checked all of the fittings and they are all good and tight.

Well.. I've done well over 200 miles now and the car hasn't fallen apart so I guess its all as its supposed to be. It 'seems' to have smoothed things out a bit through the range and although I think I can feel a torque loss low down, it feels like it pulls better up top.

I never noticed any changed in the engine sound when I fitted my t.i.p...

With the bigger intake pipe the air is less concentrated low down the rev range when entering the turbo, so the power will seem a tiny bit off the boil very low down. However, the higher you progress through the rev range the more of an advantage the larger diameter pipe will be as it will allow more air to pass through unrestricted.

All of these additional items will only come in to their element once it has been re-mapped, only then will you realise why you bought them!

was looking into buying a TIP for mine. my question is this, as mine has already been mapped will i need the map adjusting to suit? also is the mod worth it without an performance exhaust?...or do i do both?:D

I am the same with my car mate...

You will get more gains from doing the exhaust than the tip, I would do it in this order :

1. Exhuast

2. Tip

3. Remap

The most gains will be from a remap, even without an aftermarket exhaust but you are best getting the map done after all the other mods are done as this will take the mods into consideration imo.
