What induction kit to get?

Featured Replies

What induction kit should I get for my VRs? Im told that the M.A.F. can cause serious problems? Should I get the induction kit before I get it remapped?

And who do I go to for my remap? Jabbasport? Forge Motorsport (revo) or AMD?

Which is best so I dont waste my hard earned pennies

The one you have on the car already.

Yeah cos we haven't got anyone who has managed to keep their car standard for more than 5 minutes have we? ;)

Nice one lads, Id rather not keep it standard though! Since Im living in Ireland I have to plan a trip over and get the mods done at the same time, thus proving very spendy! Hence why I wanna know the best route before I go ahead and book anything. Does any one know anything bout REvo or ABD? Jabbasport look/sound the best but are they? This MAF sensor problem is worrying me big time, which kit is best and is it best to fit it before getting a remap done?

Come on lads give me a hand here

Best to get all other mods done before remap....

......from extensive testing done by the Wise Sages it was found that although a CAI gives better resposne low done it actually reduces response higher......if you want some more of that "pstsh" from the DV get a CAI fitted.......

....for more noise get an ABD LAN...something a bit quieter get a Dynatwist.

...Turbo inlet pipe... allows turbo to spin quicker and gives gains across the range... mainly torque.

....sports downpipe/cat......much better torque and again allows the turbo to spin up quicker.

MAF........problems have been attributed to oil from heavily oiled air filters......proabably due to over oiling after cleaning. If you want the benefits of a cotton gause filters but don't want to fit a CAI then get a replacement performance filter. Green Filters are lightly oiled.

Remap......what do you want from it? Value for money, undetectability, switchability, most power? This is a serious question as it will affect your choice.

HTH.

Adrian.

MAF failures do just occur. They are a factory fitted weak component.

Dealer is confronted with an after market induction kit and dead MAF will 99% blame the induction kit, regardless of its fault or not.

some induction kits are heavily coated in oil or other stickyness. This oil/stickyness is there on them to catch dust. If this coating comes out of the filter the next thing down stream is the MAF sensor. Over time this will degrade and malfunction.

Fact is, heaps of std cars are having MAF's fail. No excuse to wriggle out of the warranty claims on them. Some foam filter induction kits may allow their coating to be drawn out.

There are some 'safe' induction kits and filters out there also, and the scare mongering by dealers is on the whole just that. Scare Mongering.

V.A.G. do a nice paper one, no oil at all, cost a couple of quid, no damage to MAF and best of all no warranty issues.

i've got the neuspeed and frankly think i was kidding myself that i could feel better 'pickup'. probably had a lot more to do with the full miltek and sports cat.

nice noise but that's about it IMO. will soon be going back to standard. can't be bothered with re-oiling and *potential* MAF issues.

So which induction kit? I had a K & N on my old car it made a sweet noise, ok so no real noticabler power but it sounded the biz. Anyone going to help with the ABD or Revo question?

Hi Mike - did you read the info on the link that Quintin posted?

It is a really good into and description to vRS modding and answers your questions!

It's also written from an unbiased (well sort of;)) point of view.

PM me with specific questions you want answered and I'll try and help.

If you must, get an unoiled drop in panel filter for the standard airbox.

Just put the Green filter in mine at the weekend and can definitely feel a slight improvement - feels free-er breathing. However did drop in some Samco hoses at the same time so may be either or both together.

Not interested in power "gains" Des..

More interested in making the car stop, and go around corners better ;)
