tdi cutting out

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, just a quick one. Octavia 1.9 tdi 90bhp runs for approximatley 10 seconds then cuts out, sounds like may be air,new filters fitted, poss sensor of some type? any ideas would be most helpful thanx.

Fuel starvation?

Could be lack of fuel in the diesel filter? If so, remove the pipework from the top (take care with the o-rings) and pour some diesel in there, then reattach pipework and see if that helps. The Octy is not self priming when change the fuel filter.

Is this persistent or just recently and after filters? If the latter, I'd say Matt's right.

I would have thourght fuel myself,i'm a taxi driver & have a 110 tdi,the car in question is the base car it has just been rebuilt after major engine work.Switched off after a night shift never to start again as if engine siezed, oil level ok cam belt fitted couple of months prior (not skoda dealer) along with clutch, garage originally thought clutch problem, removed gearbox nothing wrong, car taken to different garage who recon it was to do with cam belt, could'nt see it my self seemed more like oil starvation (blockage somewhere maybe)anyhow engine rebuilt but will not tick over for more than about 10 seconds maybe a problem with the fuel cut out who knows.Car was then taken to a skoda dealer who put it on the diagnostic machine, they said crank sensor which they have replaced to no avail and they are now not sure what the problem is.

Got me too I'm afraid. :(
