First post - Octavia VRS questions!

Featured Replies

Hi there, I am looking into the possibility of an Octavia VRS, around 5 years old preferably. I'm currently driving an S reg Audi A4 (1.8 SE) and am getting a little sick of the fuel economy (32mpg and lacking any serious performance). I did have my sights on a 320d but became increasingly put off by the reputation for turbo failure and the prices are a little on the high side so I'm willing to check out the Skoda instead. Is it possible to get decent fuel economy on the 1.8T model? The official figures say 36mpg combined I believe, but these figures can often be misleading! Secondly, what is the difference between the VRS and the RS? I have seen several on Auto Trader that are simply RS models, and when I phoned out of curiousity for an insurance quote on a 2002 VRS, I was told that there was only an RS model at this time...any ideas?

My daily commute consists of 60 motorway miles and 6 town miles and get on average 40mpg. If I drive a little more enthousiastic it lowers to around 34mpg. If I drive like it was my last day on earth I can get it down to 25mpg. Reasonable enough? ;)

There is no RS in the UK (other than the early 2001 models), just vRS. This is a name/trademark issue between Ford and Skoda. In the rest of the world it is called RS though.

And welcome

The economy sounds impressive - for a car that barely reaches 60mph in 10 secs my current set of wheels can just about get 2 weeks of driving like a pensioner to work and back on a full tank! To get any fun out of it the engine needs to be worked hard and that's when the fuel really gets drained. So if cars are being listed as RS, is it safe to assume that they are Euro imports?

Cheers

No, it just means that they are unaware of the subtile name change.

Fair enough. Is it unrealistic to be on the lookout for 5 year old model for around 6 grand or under?

My best economy in my vRS was 44.5 mpg driving like my grandad.

Worst was 8.4 mpg :eek: That was however at a Knockhill trackday:D:D

On a longish run it can near the 40 mpg mark :thumbup:

Probably achievable without too much effort.

RS & vRS are effectively the same thing. Go for it; you won't be disappointed!

I get on average 27mpg on a 8 mile run to work. that's all short stop start driving.

lol

i struggle to get 25 mpg during the working week

m ways 30-35 depending

thanks for the advice. I think i'd prefer the estate over the hatchback, is it harder to find? there don't seem to be many on autotrader at any given time. Do the Mk1 vrs estates only come in red and black? I can't find any info on the colours that either the hatchback or estate VRS came in.:thumbdwn:

I get around 38 - 44MPG as almost all my driving is up and down the Mway.

It's also likely to be up for sale soon.

I took a steady 70 -80 with the cruise control on down to weston and back and averaged 36.7 mpg.

Best yet, i managed 340 miles from a tank overall, of Morrisons 97 RON.

Estates are later than the hatches.

vRS comes in only 4 colours which applies to both Hatch and Estate

Black, Red, Silver and Yellow. Cant say Ive seen too many yellow estates though ! :)

Octy limited edition WRC vRS comes in white only, however only difference from standard vRS is Xenons/heated/cruise as standard seats I believe.

I stand to be corrected by better informed people though. ;)

Pretty much correct, although on rare occasions, a white ex-plod vRS comes up on Ebay or Autotrader such as....

eBay.co.uk: SKODA OCTAVIA VRS RS 2004 54 REG - NO RESERVE (item 220096201806 end time 04-Apr-07 21:07:02 BST)

High miles but fairly cheap. Mixed opinions on whether they are a good buy or not!

Regularly serviced but probably driven hard (often from cold)

refrance prices, i got a 2003 octavia VRS with 91,000 on the clock for

i generally get bout 33 to 35 mpg on a 35 mile trip to work that include duels, motorway and Bristol city driving where its a sprint from each junction just to beat the traffic. I think this will improve when it has been chipped
