Heater blower resistor

Featured Replies

Hello All,

First of all, many thanks to everyone for helping others solve their problems!

I have the known resistor problem and I'm trying to replace it myself. I have, thanks to this fantastic thread, found the resistor, but I can't pull it out. I have rather large hands and the resistor won't turn to the right or left.

I should add that I'm from Belgium, so everything is located on the opposite side of the car.

Now I'm hesitating which direction I should turn the resistor in. Normally, unscrewing is to the left, but it won't move to both sides and I'm afraid that I will break the plastic if I try harder in the wrong direction...

So:

- can anyone confirm me that, with the whole thing on the right side of the car, I still should turn it to the left?

- are there any tricks for unscrewing the resistor 45 degrees?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Greetings from Belgium

Edit: solved, kept trying and eventually it came loose, if I remember correctly I had to turn to the right... left!

Edit 2: replaced the part today and saw that to fixate it, I had to turn it to the right. So to loosen it, you have to turn left, even with the steering wheel on the left side of the car... Once again thanks for all the info, replaced the part, total cost of the operation: 45 euros.

Just got the same problem on my 07 vRS - fan only works at gale force 10.

Having read through all these posts I found this link to an online motor factor selling replacements for £28 plus VAT, which might help others.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Went to local dealer today and got a new resistor pack. £33.39.

After reading the 'how to' I did the job, start to finish, in about 15 minutes. Sorted :D

Hi all,

Anyone know the cheapest place to buy a fan resistor pack 6Q0 959 263 A please? Cannot find it cheaper than about 35 quid online.

Thanks,

DJ

Bought the part from main dealer yesterday 40 quid inc vat. Works a treat, took less than an hour to strip the old one out and replace it - a bit fiddly but do-able. New pollen filter is filthy due to smoke damage from the old resistor self destructing.

new to skoda ownership;  read this forum and got it out in about 45 mins......took half a ton of tree leaves  out of the fan unit and pollen filter as I decided to change pollen filter at same time !  resistor pack fitted and now all speeds working, next job is swap radio/cassette for a radio & multichanger ?

@Daddyfixitsnew1 - What trim level? An Elegance may already have a stacker (likely locations under the front passenger seat or behind the boot trim panel on the LHS).

hello kenOneill;

only a comfort spec, radio cassette was not connected but is inop anyway.  fitted head unit today and will get changer fitted over the weekend if I get time.  had to order a plastic trim to convert skoda-size radio to DIN size, that arrives next week so all should be done by then.  Rear screenwash isn't working so im just about to order a screenwash pump as pipes & nozzle seem clear.

There are some push together pipe connections in the pipe that commonly come apart so check for that. The main culprit is in the pipe underneath the ABS unit at the bulkhead and there is one behind the side trim at the passenger side rear wheel arch. It can also pop off at the pump and rear jet connections. Worth checking before you buy parts.
