I feel that Skoda will surprise us all and bring the new car out with the same body kit as this rally car. Obviously not 4wd but with 170bhp standard. If not, I'll be looking elsewhere as there's lots to choose from even from Vauxhall. I've just test drove the Corsa VXR and it is stunning.

complete with holes in the bonnet and roof, and ridiculously wide wheelarches?

I couldn't agree more.

I know people are saying that they will only put 140 in it (which is probably the case), but when you have cars like the VXR Corsa at ridiculous hp they need to do a car that can at least keep up with it.

People will say that it's not all about power, which is true, there has to be a good chasis there too, but nowadays it's good to have a really high powered 'supermini' about and it's good from a marketing point of view too.

My main concern with Skoda is that using the 170 TDi will pitch it straight against the Octavia.

My point is that some people (like me) don't want a larger car until there is a family on the way, so therefore I want a sporty car that will go like SOAS, look the part and be cheap to run on Diesel,

So come on Skoda, do it for your loyal followers, make it a decent car!!!

Phew, going to make a good old cup of tea. :D

I still find the fabia vrs a rare car. Yes I do see about 3 every day. 2 silver and one red. And yes they are the same drivers. One infact has a briskoda sticker in his window. Compared to a "normal" fabia/octy thats not many.

reply from original post: they tell u this so u buy the old one *moving stock* and phycologically telling u this is the best and "only" version ur gonna get from this brand/model, i.e push u to buy it now :)

(apologies if anyone said this already)

Surely the guys at Skoda do realise that the competition has increased ten fold from when the original Vrs was launched. For the Fab Vrs to be another success it will have to be producing roughly 170bhp Derv or petrol to even get a look in. If the car does indeed come out and produces only 140bhp then I think it could be the end of an era for sporty Skoda's. I for one will not buy an Octavia Vrs because it is just too big. I would not buy a sporty Golf as they just don't represent decent value for money or buy anything French full stop. That leaves the Corsa or Astra VXR which both look bloody excellent and go like stink.

Just what I was thinking, well said.

Here's a nice shot of the Vauxhall.

If you think that anything on that S2000 car looks rediculous then next time you walk outside to get into your car, close your eyes. ;) It makes the Fabia VRS look like a shopping trolley.

Only 2 door. Does look nice but too much like a Clio for my taste.

If they dont get the next Fabia vRS 'right' I will probably go for an Octavia or an Audi A3. (colleage ha a new 1.8 s-line - Awesome build quality) I still want to be in a VAG car. Pm'd you recently. Hows your car going? Didnt you mention a water leak?

The 5 year warrenty is fantastic and then of course you have an extra 2 years warrenty on the engine and gearbox!! I cannot see many people at all remapping and losing that.

It works both ways though. If the company have that much faith in the engine and gearbox lasting 7 years without issue, then I can imagine it'll withstand being fettled with quite easily....

Asked my local dealer today (Grassmere in Macclesfield) and they said March 08. They had bets on it using the EDC-16 2.0 140bhp, not the 170 as that is resevered for the Octy.

If the new Fabia VRS has 140bhp then i'll be loking elsewhere. They need to take note of the current crop of little hot hatches. It's their 'hot hatch' after all and if they are going to play it safe and not upset VW or Seat then they will lose a customer.

They could do so much with the VRS if they wanted to. I've already prepared myself for a change anyway. Maybe the Focus ST.

Here here, very well said!

Oh and they will be making it 2 ex customers if I see 140 on any literature.

Don't know if it's true but I herad that VAG are going to produce a 200hp TDi Common Rail for the end of this year.

If this is the case, the Octavia could have an engine power upgrade and the new Fab vRS can have the old 170 lump, thereore keeping the Octy as the stronger car.

If they don't alter the seating position in the new fabia for the vRS (seat height) then I will just be playing with the old one;)

can anyone remember what the "then-current" competition in the way of hot-hatches was, when the Fabia vRS was originally brought out ?

I'm not sure I can see Skoda trying to match the 190 Corsa VXR, or the Clio 197 - I don't see the point in getting involved in a bhp war.

ctr was the pick of the crop
