Becoming a Hairdresser

Featured Replies

Always having lots of car plans.Hopefully over the next 8 weeks it will be all change on the car front for myself and Jane.

Looking to get a Volvo V70 for the big car for Jane, the twins and all their palava.Swap the Fabia vRS for it.

Me? Ditch the Octavia vRS for a Mazda MX5 (not new).

As a skoda driver and one who should be hardened about 'image',I still worried about the Hairdresser image:eek:

Then I thought sod that. Its a fun two seater and it's what I want to enjoy, not what other people think.Any input on MX5's appreciated.1.6,1.8's.92 onwards

Had an oldish J reg 1.6.

Bit of a hoot to drive, plenty of spares and shiny parts for customising if you want them. Pretty easy to work on.

Heater is awesome - did you ever wonder why those idiots have their roof down when it's sooo cold.

TBH mate- the mx5 is the epitome of the british sports car, but with jap reliability:thumbup:

well worth the dollar. Only problem I have is that I cant select 4th or 5th due to there being not enough space betwen Steering wheel, clutch leg and gearstick on the 1st gen ones:rofl:

I wanted an MX-5, but SWMBO said it was too impractical - hence I'm now getting a Fabia vRS....

I'm not a fan personally, I think there's better alternatives, Honda CRX being one. But its personal preference and if thats what you like then go for it.

Frost out.

that'd be the del sol varient? iirc they are FWD?

Del Sol is the jap model, otherwise UK is just CRX. They're front wheel drive, but well balanced. 1.6 engine comes in 2 formats, Esi being the economic version. Vti being remapped for performance Vtec action. Good cars with excellent Jap pedigree ;)

Aye no bad- bit small for lil old 17stone me:rofl:

however i'd view them more against saxo/306/golf fare rather than MX5 as the mx5 is RWD...

Was looking at these recently as a 2nd car, but a change in circumstances means the idea has to be shelved. I was recommended to get a Mk2 (at all costs) as they changed the suspension setup and also came with a more up-to-date interior. Avoid the 1.6 and go for the 1.8i as it has more power. The Jap imports (Eunos) will have more kit, but you might find insurance is a pain - worth researching before you take the plunge. Also worth budgeting for getting it re-wayoyl'd if it's from Japan and just come into the country too but that shouldn't be too much.

What are the newer MG TF's like? Have no idea about them but always thought they looked pretty smart - can get a fairly decent spec one for a few £k's as well

If its RWD action you want, how about a Nissan 300ZX??? :D

although, totally different to the MX5 in as far as it aint nimble-more of a sledgehammer

When i bough my hairdressers car, i went for the MR2 Roadster. Couldn't fault it.

The MX5 is a great car, not actually that quick but great fun to drive, and reliable and cheap enough to run to be used as your daily driver. Good choice.

Oh, and don't let the hairdresser thing get to you. My last car was a TT, I've heard all the jokes going, and it doesn't really bother you when you're 6'4, 15 stones and work in construction !

Sod what other people say - it's what suits your circumstances and wants.

Wardy seems well pleased with MX5 - and I would think you're guaranteed Mazda build quality and reliability.

Re: Volvo - used to really really hate them , but they've come on leaps and bounds. Not the 'old codgers' car they used to be by any means.

Stop living by others preconceptions / prejudices and live your own life I say.

Best to you

This sounds like a great idea! ;)

I wouldn't worry about the image, I feel its completely undeserved anyway. It's a properly sorted, designed from the ground up, sports car. Light, simple mechanics, properly setup chassis. As a package it works brilliantly. I see the image thing the same as when I had a Skoda - you may get the jokes etc, but you know yourself that you've made a good choice.

I'd say go for it, absolutely, especially as a second car. I may not keep mine that long, as will need to think about practicality longer term - but I'm certainly enjoying it while I can! And when I can manage two cars, I certainly know what the weekend toy will be...

What sort of budget are you looking at? You'll want a Mk2 if you can possibly afford it. Yes, the pop up lights and some of the details on the Mk1 are nicer, but the Mk2 is the smart choice really. Better cabin, a bit more room etc. I wouldn't bother with the 1.6s either, but test one out back-to-back with a 1.8 and make your own mind up. That's what I ended up doing and then went about finding myself the right 1.8 :)

Cheers.

TBH,not worried about the image.I just see them as great two seaters sports cars.I love roof off motoring.I have thought about MR2.Nice but doesn't seem as 'simple' if you know what I mean.Even been having looks at Z3's.

Will bear in mind the 1.6,1.8 point.Seems there is a lot of difference!

Decision to be made now is old one as third car or newer as everyday.Think option 2 and a mark 2 1.8.

Just need to beat the summer price hike cons!! Cheers folks:thumbup:

Did you get one Lozgti?

I currently have a mk2 1.8s MX5. Great fun on the corners, feels faster than is due to wind noise. Very revvy engine (I change at 5-6k rpm!). Heaters are amazing, very solidly built too. Some good forums for advice too.

Just need a bigger boot so keen for a furby VRS.

Want to swap? :D

Not yet.Just sorted the wifes car out first (Fabia was p/exd for that)

My turn now, hopefully over the next 14 days:thumbup:

It's astounding how many of the jokers shut up when they realise you've had the balls to buy a car that isn't the same as everything else and is genuinely good to drive.

Buy one, if anyone takes the **** take them for a run out in it. They might realise that different isn't necessarily gay, and when the sun comes out you're getting a tan on the way to work

*should* be picking my car up tomorrow:thumbup: . A 1.8 on an 04 plate with 30k on the clock.Apparantly needed discs and pads but seller is doing this.

Gawd I hate waiting:(

 - the wait will be worth it. You've just gotta hope for some nice weather now!!

What colour? Is it a std 1.8i or special ed etc?
