Best Bulbs on the market

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just after some info regarding upgrading my standard :thumbdwn: bulbs, I would have preferred My Furby to have Xenons but I went for the younger, lower mileage option instead. Standard bulbs are crap and I was wondering from experience what bulbs people on the forum have upgraded to and what they think. I do not want to install an aftermarket HID kit as it a bit too expensive. I think i'm after the impossible I just want a bulb thats as close to a Xenon as possible........ Any info would be great. Any links would also help.

Thanks.

Osram Silverstars for dipped and Philips Rallye 100W for main beam! So impressed it was one of the first things I bought for the Mondeo

Agreed ....Osram Silverstars

If you think Furby lights are bad you should try a VW Bora!

I've put Osram Silverstars in SWMBOs estate, but Philips Extreme are supposed to be brighter still.

I had Osram silverstar +50 bulbs in my old Almera and they were pretty good.

I was pretty happy driving with just dipped on as they gave such a good coverage.

You won't get the intense white light you can get from the right colour xenons, but I'd imagine you would get light coverage which wont be too far off.

For 501's im using led ones which i got from flea bay (£1 posted each!!) they're brill as they're flat head LEDs meaning light spreads thro-out the lens thingy. Flat Head LED's!!

As for dipped beams i also tried fleabay at £5 each i think.. lasted 2 months.. :( but apparently my friends one lasted 2 yrs.. (100w white xenon look alike ones). Oh and i also have full beams from fleabay too.. they still working after 4-5months and i use them fairly often.. i.e. 20-30mins a week? I like my b/a roads.

Tempted in some branded ones tho.. might have a search for ones above.. how long does bulbs normally last?

Oh, just remembered my brother has/had PIAA super something ones which cost £50 in HK which lasted well over 3 yrs but I wasnt sure what the model was, it was very near 7k (in colour)

PIAA Spark Blue - 7500K on the Kelvin scale for that authentic Xenon look.

Same combination as ScoobyChris. Got them on his recommendation actually for the Fabia :D

And have since fitted them to each car I've had. You won't be disappointed. Goto Power Bulbs - autobulbs, autolamps, xenon headlights, car bulbs, headlight bulbs, osram silverstar, silver star, philips vision plus, philips blue vision, bluevision - there's usually a 10% discount code floating about too, if you do a bit of searching :)

PIAA Spark Blue - Goooooood bulbs, at a price, but NOT 'E' marked so shouldn't (I won't say can't) be used on Road.

Neither should Phililps 100w Rally bulbs - but who's going to check. Have you flashed a Police car recently?

Personally, I used the PIAA Extreme White Plus (10/10) in my Fabia that are 'E' marked for both main and dip. I have also used the Osram Silver Stars (9/10) and Phillips Blue Vision (8.5/10) in the past. The Philips give a slightly more blue/Xenon type light than the Silverstar.

Your choice but I'm a firm believer that you get what you pay for and cheapest is seldom the best.

Finally; overall the Fabia lights are not good as LIGHTS; regardless of which bulb you use. My wife's car is a FIAT Doblo (van/mpv thingy) and using the same bulbs in both cars the FIAT is 100% better!! I have just put the PIAA Extreme White Plus out of my Fabia into here replacing Osram Silverstars with a noticiable difference.

Thats if its made in Japan (USA, Korea or UK). ;) but as for other countries its debatable.

[edit] did a little searching and Powerbulbs is on fleabay too, at cheaper prices i think? Power Bulbs

Thanks for the post guys I might try the PIAA Spark Blue they look quite good do these look any good ???

just found them on autoblubsdirect....

The Spark Blues LOOK GOOD but are frightenly expensive, not easy to get in UK and are NOT 'E' marked.

The Philips +80% have a good write up but I have no experience of then. They do seem to have a good blend of performance vs. price.

I have heard the the Philips X-Treme Power H7 are the mutts upto 80% more light than a standard lamp

I currently have some Philips X-treme Power fitted to my Octavia and whilst the output is fantastic, there is no blue tint whatsoever. I'm ordering some PIAA spark blue's on pay day

  • 1 month later...

Can anyone confirm which size / spec bulb i would need for the Fabia VRS, as far as i can tell its H3 Full Beam and H7 Dipped, is that correct??

As a follow up to my earlier post, one of my Osram's finally gave up the ghost today (37k miles isn't too bad :o) so I've ordered some of the new Philips Extreme +80% bulbs. If the reviews are to be believed, they'll be something else :D

Assuming you don't have xenons, yep :D

Chris

Could anyone tell me if they seem to have non existant side lights, as when I use mine it looks like I have non on at all, the normal lights are ok and seem to be nearly as good as full at times( I do drive along some very dark and back roads), as far as I know the bulbs are standard as i have never changed them but my fabia was not bought new.

Recently upgraded my bulbs to Osram Silver Stars too and it's weird as there is not much difference between dipped beam and full beam. I found myself not bothering to hit full beams sometimes on a recent dark journey. Only thing is that on two occasions, on-coming traffic have flashed me. (presuming that they thought I was using full beams, but can't be sure)

I found that the sidelights have a habit of coming out of their fitting and are then lighting up the inside of the lamp cover, not the headlamp unit.

You have got sidelight bulbs? Have you checked they have not 'blown'?
