Systems failing

Featured Replies

Ocatavia 2003 1.9TDi 110 5-door

First it was the passenger door clicking (sounded like a relay), then the pax door window would not work (then it decided to again, luckily). The driver door indicator light (by the button) remained on when driving and also when locked (but flashing). The radio display no longer lights up when driving at night but the red light on the radio front flashes (it should only do this when switched off with ignition key removed).

The latest (serious) problem is that the central locking system has decided not to work. It locks the boot but nothing else, so I have to do the job manually on each door.

The car still drives fines but the above problem seems to be getting worse.

Any thoughts on what may be happening? (Brill car otherwise)

A read off of the fault codes would be a good start.

But I am personally thinking that you could have either water in the plug in the boot on the n/s or faulty wiring in a door loom. Both are common faults and pretty well covered on here.

The first step would be to get any fault codes read, without thses the following is only guess work.

The passenger window could have a regulator on the way out, the clicking that you heard could be the plastic clip breaking up.

The locking will not work if the car is registering a key in the ignition, it does this by by activating a contact in the switch (S contact), a way to test this is to switch the radio on and then remove the key the radio should turn off and the interior light should come on, if these things do not happen try lubricating the lock and working it in with the key.

From switching from standard to advanced preview, I see that I have been 'Lummoxed':), as the top technician says check for water ingress into the control units plugs, there is one on each door and the passenger door would be a good starting point.

Sounds similar to the symptoms I had as my central convenience unit was on the way out. The unit and loom had to be raplaced. I read the codes and had approx. 17 different codes!

The passenger window was clicking (like a relay sound as described above), but it was the unit in the drivers door that was at fault.
