Mk1 Octavia Estate Boot/Number Plate Trim Paint Bubbling - Help Required

Featured Replies

I recently noticed the paint bubbling up around the lower edges of the boot/number plate trim on my Octavia mk1 Estate. Having a poke around the site it would seem that I am not the only one to have experienced this and in fact I may actually be lucky as others have also suffered from paint problems below the rear window. No worries I thought, a common fault, I

I had a small patch right on the edge where the rear window meets the boot panel (in front of the spoiler - vRS). It was there when I got the car and I was surprised by it as the car is immaculate everywhere else. Speaking to a college who has a Y plate vRS he says he has the same spot and it's been the same for 4 years. I went to Skoda and asked about having it repaired and they rejected a warranty claim with the argument that the rust was due to damage to the paint. It was hard for me to prove wither way because the affected area was fairly heavily rusted so I could hardly argue that the paint was fine. Due to my colleague having the same rust, I decided to pursue it and caused a fuss with SUK. After a phone call and strongly worded letter they agreed to change both my boot, AND my colleagues! He has had his replaced now, Mine is going in next week to have the work done.

It's worth hassling them if you have the time/energy to do so.

Had a similar problem on my estate octy when it was two years old. The paint had 'lifted' along a section of the bottom edge of the tailgate and in a couple of places by the number plate. My local dealer said it looked as if it had been repaired and didn't think Skoda would cover it under warranty. The car was a one year old 'Skoda car' when I bought it and I had not damaged it. I emailed some photos to the dealership that I bought it from and they booked it in and did a very good job under warranty. Phone skoda assistance and explain the issue.

sorry dont want to hijack this thread but how long does the paint warranty last? I have numerous paint bubbles and was going to get them sorted personally, but if they are covered under warrenty that would be a lot better.

Cheers Matt

Not sure on the paint think 3. Body warranty is 10 years if it can be proven that it has rusted from the inside out then you could have a claim best thing to do it talk to skoda and the stealers
