which is the best oil to use on the Octy vRS ??

i'm planning to run the car to the normal 10K / 12 month service intervals but wanted to know what oil to use for top ups...

Cheers

Where are you based? I have several part used bottles from services on my RS. You are welcome to them as the diesel takes different stuff.

Isn't variable servicing the norm for the vRS ex-factory unless changed to fixed by the dealer at the request of the owner? I would use a Longlife oil to spec VW 503 00 - eg Castrol SLX Longlife 2, Shell Helix Ultra X or BP Visco 7000 Longlife II - since that is what the car comes with from new. Alternatively, if you are going to stay on fixed servicing and want to use a multigrade high lubricity oil, use one which meets specs VW 500 00 or 502 00. However, if you want an even cheaper oil, any multigrade meeting spec VW 501 00 will do.

lets hope you dont run the Kwak on it then Chavy !!!

TaviaRS - i'm in Walsall, will you be coming along to the mids meet on the 28th ?

If so and if you dont mind i could get it off you there.

As for the servicing schedule, the dealers i bought the car from did ask what service routine i was going to use, i said i'd rather have it done every 10K or 12 months over the variable (which i was told is when the car tells you it needs servicing via the dash LCD !?)... thing is i'm not the type to just run the car for 10K miles and never check the oil and fluid levels...

The dealer who supplied my vRS left me a 1 litre bottle of Magnatec in the boot which he said I should use during the running up period if required. I guess that's what mine has been filled up with as I had it from brand new. I'm also pleased to report it hsn't used a drop of the stuff in 1800 miles :P

Cheers,

Ian

thanks for the info, i have checked the oil and its fine for now but you never know when you'll need a top up ...

Vegtable oil

As opposed to some of the vegetables who drive FURBYS and can't spell ?

(Hint, see your sig ;) )

I'd steer clear of Magnatec as it has some wax content. Better off with Mobil1 if you want 10k intervals but you need longlife oil for the variable intervals.
