performance is the key

Featured Replies

First of I would like to say thanks 2 everyone who helped sort out my starting problem on my felicia 1.3l was the temp sensor now sorted along with full new exhaust inc cat, new clutch, two new front shock mounts, brake callipers, pads, discs and c.v boot. so as you can see cost me a bit , but worth every penny runs like a dream apart from 1 thing.

needs more power and speed. So heres the thing does anyone know which route to go down. I dont have much cash left but would like some better throttle response and some better top end as it seems to top out at 4000 revs and 95 mph. any ideas would be great cheers and all the best Alex

induction kit.

its hard to find one for a felly, so your best bet is to bye the fillter, and make some brackets yourself.

de-cat.

on the 1.3 the cat is a seperate unit. if you get a second hand one from a brakers, any old metal works will probly cut the cat out and weld some pipe in its place. when it comes to mot (:finger: ) time toy just pop the cat back in.

the combination of theas two should let the revs run freely up to 5000ish, and save fuel.

cheers for that though i read somewhere that panel filters sometimes work better on smaller engines than induction dont really want to spend £100 if its not goin to work properly, have u tried induction and did it work for you. as for the cat sounds good will give that a go as today I was beaten by a 1.1 citreon saxo and wife was peeing herself at me.

dont spend yoyr money trying to gain more power from 1.3 engine you are not going to see big improvement belive me i tried that but no luck. 1.3 is a good engine but very weak.

. 1.3 is a good engine but very weak.

i'm personally not a huge fan of the skoda engines, but i think this statement isn't true.. they are surprisingly strong little engines

i would find a decent fast road camshaft to improve the top end power a little:)

did it work for you.

yer baby yer!!!!

and toms right. the 1.3 is dam good for a 1.3. as long as its a mpi.

Get the revs between 3500rpm and 4500rpm, it pulls well then. I didn't mod otherwise, just keep the revs between there and it runs well enough. I used to keep up with my mates well enough in mine!

 Are you being serious?

tell ya what, give me a modern supermini to pass onto my brother, and lets see if their lumps can handle 40k miles in 2 years at warp speed:rofl:

the wee 1.3mpi has several desirable characteristics

MPI- what made the Golf Gti such a hoot

Manual tappets- no valve bounce at high revs

Chain Driven- no piddly belts to snap.

I reckon with enough time and effort you could get 100bhp out the 1.3. Lighten a 5 dr hatch and you'd have a rapid lil q car:thumbup:

not so i'm afraid, the main factors affecting valve bounce is the weight of the valve (tiny ickle ones on the 1.3 engine) and the tension of the valve springs

furry muff, but by "high revs" on an mpi I mean over 5k (remember the redline is 5250 or thereabouts)

I dont imagine the valve springs are exceptionally strong either.
