You're not the only one. I've got some bad ones on my windscreen and a really bad on my ****ing door. A door! If I carry on at this rate, I won't have any paint left on the front of the car by the time its 3 yrs old.

It's not just you, my car is peppered with stonechips :thumbdwn:

The one that hit me today actually made me duck as I saw it hurtling towards the window, and then scream when it smacked into the screen.

I think the Corsa with a V8 sticker infront of me was to blame.

I have one on the passenger side that looks like an inverted nipple, and now one that looks like the a little star.

Have you tried not driving around 'working' quarries ?

Had a bolt hit the front valance of the car when doing 80 down the aptly named Death Valley years ago. It dented the metal and left a nice outline. Dog only knows what would have happened if it had hit the windscreen.

Sympathies

Touch wood, not had one for 10 years. And, having said this, you'd better not have put the jinx on me - or drive 'oop our way' just in case this is an 'EE thing' i.e. warp speed / ground effect / wake / whatever....

if it makes you feel any better the day i picked my 07 plate fabia i had a stone fly up and smash the bottem corner of my windscreen i haddent eaven done 20 miles

EE , drive slightly further away from the car infront , this will lessen the chances of being hit by road debris

EE Keep back from the car in front - :)

See you in Bury :)

My car is 4 months old and ive got about 5 quite big stone chips in my windscreen, one of which is running. I have many small ones too - i keep a good distance but it happens anyway.

Are the windscreens in Fabia`s very soft, or am i just unlucky?

I don't think I was too close to the car infront. Maybe after a lot of heavy rain the stones get carried on to the motorway and that's why they jump up and hit my car.

I have seen a company in Tesco car parks offering windscreen repairs for free, problem is I never seem to have my car on me when I see them.

The second annoying thing is the bloody dead bugs splatted everywhere!

Check the small print of your insurance as most insurers will not charge you a windscreen excess if the screen can be repaired (but you have to go through their approved centre)....

or keep in front of them :D

I now have 3 small chips in my octy windscreen. Got them all recently, I think its a sign of the times. The roads round our way are in poor condition and full of pot holes with stones everywhere.

And mine, but then I think the 27 has a special affinity for debris

Serious answer - are there a lot of "road repairs" where surfaces are being "top dressed" (spray of tar followed by chippings typically quarter to halt inch nominal diameter), or potholes filled with cold cure tar (the very black stuff that comes in bags) around your way EE?

Either of those can cause an epidemic of stone chipping, especially if people completely ignore the temporary speed limit for a day or 2 afterwards.

Went to a repair place today, and they said without question of a doubt I need a new windscreen because of the nipple shaped stone chip.

£50 excess on the insurance, but I opted to leave it for a while as it is on the passenger side and does not bother me too much.

If you need a new screen it's an MoT failure, and might be a C&U regs offence in itself lass.

:D Thanks em that made me smile

Sorry about the stone chips btw, maybe you and Sharky could start a club:P

My MOT is not due until November.

He said that it is 100% road safe, just a bit ugly looking.

Ok, if it's safe, then leave it until July or August, cos it'll be warmer and drier then (I think), which will make it easier to get the replacement screen bonded properly.

And remember that my previous was intended as a friendly warning, sight unseen.

what rain ? i haven't seen any for over 3 weeks :D

True as far as it goes, but I think you actually get more stones in places they'd not normally be, and hence thrown up by passing traffic, in dry weather.
