Broadband question

Featured Replies

My lass has Broadband at her house. The problem is that when someone is on the intenet the phone line quality really degrades. Has anyone else had this problem???? It's embarassing as I am a comms engineer, but I don't have broadband so not that clued up on it.

maybe you need the microfilters on *all* the sockets in the house?

Thought that might be the case (bloody swizz I tell ya :D)

Phones, faxes, and (non-ADSL) modems all need to be downstream from a microfilter (aka splitter), but they don't need a separate filter for each device. There's a useful tutorial on microfilters and phone wiring at http://www.adsl-filters.co.uk/tutorial.html.

I found the most convenient solution was to use a microfilter faceplate from Solwise http://www.solwise.co.uk. It has connections on the back for taking both filtered and unfiltered feeds to further extensions; I ran a filtered circuit to a socket in the living room for the phone, and an unfiltered one to a socket in the conservatory for broadband.
