6 x 9 speaker suggestions

Featured Replies

Hullo

Having never even seen a pair of 6 x 9s :speaker: :speaker: let alone fitted / owned a set, I'm on the hunt for the best makes to go for, what the best power to go for would be (not necessarily the highest wattage?), and also to confirm they're as easy to wire up as I'm hoping.

I just don't wanna look like a muppet (like that ever happens?) when I've actually got a set and they're a load of cr4p!

Thanks

How much do you want to spend? Halfords have a range from

I got a set of Infinity i6309 (or someting like that...I'll check later)....

Really - I'm just after brands to complement the sub that's going back in a.s.a.p. and brands to obviously avoid at the same time. I'll be happy to spend

Ah, well, if you're keeping the sub, then you won't be wanting to run the 6x9s off it...you'll be looking at disconnecting the existing rear speakers and, as Adrian said, combining the wires to fit to the 6x9s. Although, thinking about it, the 6x9s will have tweeters in them anyway, so you should be able to get away with not combining the wires and loosing the fitted rear tweeters...

Like I say, if you're buying budget then they're all much of a muchness. But if the bidding gets to 50 quid, you might as well just go get the Infinity's from Halfords... :)

I had the Pioneer TS series 6x9s in mine and you know what they sounded like.

I'm a little flummoxed by the wiring options. I'd feel a little concerned trying to disconnect the original rear speakers and wire up the 6x9s to them.

Why would hooking them up the Rockford amp in the boot be a bad thing? Something to do with running a sub & 6x9s in conjunction?

Jon - Yeah - I remember your audio, but my mind was elsewhere if you know what I mean... ;) I'll look them up.

Yes, that's exactly the problem... :)

Seriously, you won't have a problem with the rear speaker rewiring if it's anything like the Octy. IIRC, you'll have two positives and two negatives on each side - one of each will be in a plastic plug (so you'll have 4 plastic plugs overall). Unplug one plastic bit from each side, see which ones kill the rear tweeter. Then use the other one for your +ve and -ve to the corresponding 6x9.

You can either cut the existing plug off and work from there, or bodge it using a poking device and some masking tape... ;)

If you are running a sub then there isn't much point in having 6*9s ' date=' and all they will do is shift the sound into the back of the car.

The money would be much better spent on some decent quality components to replace the OEM fronts.

The overall sound quality will be much better , and you will get a much clearer soundstage up front.

Oh and 6*9s on the rear shelf are an invitation to thieves.[/quote']

Hmmm - I never thought about this TBH... It will be a lot of oomph coming from the back, and not so much from the front...

I think the Fabia front door speakers are 13cm so I'll do a search for them as well.

That said, your rear speakers are at ear-level...so it makes sense to have detailed speakers in the rear... :D

Any suggestions on OEM replacements and where to get them from?

Thanks,

6*9s are rarely known for their high sound quality , and although they are closer to ear level they are also some way back from the driver.

Components with the tweeters high up in the front door would give you a very clear sound

I don't have any complaints about the SQ of my 6X9 or system but then I'm not an audiophile.

I have the system biased to the front with a little bit more treble bias which suits the front speakers and base comes mainly from the rear. To my ears give a nice sound with depth.

When I have time I'll probably put some black material over the speaker for that OEM look and stealth.

Obviously, but then this isn't exactly cheap or simple compared with a set of 6x9s in the back.

have to agree 6x9 is fine for rear fill but you do need to start with components up front for SQ reasons. Doesnt have to be expensive.. even some 50 quiders will blow stock units away.

I found some 150W QX front door speakers with the works for

Though it does come down to personal taste, as I find your sound systems always have too much treble on 'em. Which wouldn't be the case in the car if you didn't have the components... :D

Jason, have you tried andy_ccr to see what he has to say on the subject and to compare prices? Just a suggestion....

Spend the money on a decent set of front speakers instead. 6x9s will only distort the sub bass coming from the boot. Have a look at most higher end installs and you won't see a single pair of 6x9s !

However, if you do want a pair then I keep probably 20 or 30 different pairs in stock !!

Andy

Any idea which speakers can be used for a direct swap (with or without mounting plate) on the fabia, Andy? IIRC isn't mounting depth an issue?

Do you do a mobile fitting service at special Briskoda rates? :D :D :D

Andy?

I'll forget about 6 x 9s then and stick with the sub - it does produce enough bass for me to be honest.

What could you do for me then when it comes to 130mm front door speakers? :speaker:

If it helps I currently have a Kenwood HU, so don't know if Kenwood speakers are the best. PM me if you can do anything pretty good for less than

I thought the fron speakers were 160mm on the Fabia.

I had 7x10's on the rear shelf in my old Fabia, and they were really good! :D

I put some 6x9's (JVC) in my parcel shelf and changed the head unit to JVC with MP3 facility but maintained the rear door tweeters. Wicked sound!!!!!! So if you dont mind cutting your rear self the boot makes a good bass box. Also by cutting into the rear self your speakers will not get affected by any rain coming in and destroying the cones :D

Jason, get a pair of Infinity 652i's, they are the dogs do do's and cost
