Loss of brakes

Featured Replies

Hi, Can anyone help? I was travelling down a dual carriageway approaching a roundabout yesterday , i touched my brake to slow when the pedal went to the floor without any braking at all, nearly causing me to hit the vehicle in front. I immediately pumped the brake which came back all of a sudden. It was like i had massive fluid loss but having taken the wheels off and checked the fluid level there is no sign of a leak. Can anyone offer any advice before i leave my car in the hands of my local garage, by the way i have driven the car today and apart from the feeling of a little air in the system the brakes are stopping me, HELP!!! Thanks in advance for any help or advice offered.

faulty master cylinder or wheel bearing ?

Hi, Thanks for the reply RIC , a friend of mine suggested the master cylinder, but how would a wheel bearing affect the brakes, excuse me if i sound confused .

Cheers.

Worth bleeding them at the very least. Not sure what a wheel bearing has to do with it??

Thanks I just cant trust the damn thing now i,ve lost all confidence in the car, if there is air in the system would,nt there be loss of fluid somewhere?

I'd look at the master cylinder, but then as a fluid loss should still leave you with 2 out of your 4 brakes working to some extent by design.

if a wheel bearing has excess play , whilst it is rotating the disc will push the brake pads back , therefore when you apply the brake, the pads will need to be pushed back against the disc , this can be as much a full pedal stroke , hence no brakes when you first pressed the pedal , HTH
