Sporadic Emissions Light on VRS

Featured Replies

My Furby Vrs (10,000 miles) is not happy. I have done a search to try and find similar characteristics but nothing similar.

I had a faulty EGR valve replaced in March this year after it was leaking oil and the car was fine

This last 2 weeks the light has come on but also gone out. It goes out after 4 starts of the car. I have noticed the car is using more fuel and it is down on power when the light goes out.

I don't think the new EGR valve is faulty as before the light stayed on continuously.

Does anyone have any ideas or experienced anything similar (faulty sensors may be) or point me in the right direction?

Thank you - Z

Just in case anyone else has the same problem, Bickerton's have stated today that they think the EGR valve is faulty but it is possible that it could be something else. They will know once the valve is changed.

When mine was about the same age, I got the glowplug warning light on = brakelight circuit. After a new brake light switch and a thorough inspection, the problem returned. My Kenlowe Hotstart was blamed, so it was removed. The warning light came back.

The dealer principal got so pi55ed off he grabbed a can of contact cleaner, ripped the ECU plugs off and sprayed everything. Problem went away and 40K miles later it hasn't returned. Moral: check the simple things like connections first.

Oh, and a year later when my EGR valve was dribbling oil, there was no diagnostics clue that anything was wrong, just an oil leak. It was replaced under warranty

Bit of an update on my car. Hope it is of value to someone now or in the future.

Bickerton's of Sheffield diagnosed a faulty EGR valve and have replaced it today. I have to say the difference is amazing. The problems I was having were:

**Higher than normal fuel consumption***

**More visible smoke***

**Down on power by a considerable amount (felt like turbo wasn't working) ***

**Emissions light lit but going out after four starts of the engine***

Now the car is running really well. Well done that techy.
