Fabia VRS performance figures

Featured Replies

I dont think there are many people who would not want to have a 330D on here as we all know its a great car a family car very very fast and RWD.

The vRS is a great little car but its never going to be in the league of a 330d - its nice to try to beat these but thats the whole point. Remember the old 1989 VW add for the Golf GTI 16v it showed the Golf and the Astra Sri16V at the traffic lights basically pointing out that everyone will want to try to beat you and you neednt bother trying as you know that they all want your car.... great ad that and it hurt Vauxhall sales.

But the thing here is yes your keeping up by chipping it & tuning it however your MPG is dropping and the added stress on parts is increasing therefore reducing engine life.

If you both ran 0-100mph std difference would be 16.9 for the BMW 330d vs 23.8 vRS thats a whopping 7 seconds quicker. However when you see this on the road it may only be x car lengths ahead so not seem to be thrashing you - when it is.

If your doing side by side in the same gear and flooting it at the exact same point you have the issue of the gearing the 330d is very long geared while apart from 6th the vRS & other VAG's are not.

The 335d does 0-100mph in 14 seconds which is only 2.9 seconds quicker than the 330d yet it is a vastly quicker car & this time is for the auto - they dont make a manual....

MPG dropping? It has increased with the remap. It increased again last weekend too now it has a hybrid turbo fitted.. It goes further down now when I kick it's head in, but thats to be expected.

Anyhow, I gather you are not a fan of modifying/tuning/remapping?

talk about opening a can of worms!!....but really if id wanted lots of power then i wouldve kept the octy rs!!:)....needed to cut the fuel bills a good bit and still needed hatch back!!....little chunky staffies dont do too well on the back seat!!....yep would love a beemer with lots of pull:).....dad mate in florida runs a race team and he's got a 530D m tech!!!....now thats a motor!!

k:)

Ah so you have chipped it and changed the turbo these are big increases no question.

How much over the std car has your insurance increased by?

In regards to the first question. Your looking around 24-25 seconds to 100mph.

8.5+ to 60 mph.

And won't hit anymore than book figures for top speed.

All mods declared - roughly

Ok but if you were say 25 then a std 330d or a modified vRS up to the same speed of a 330d will be much more & come resale less appealing.

I guess so. Thing is, childish as it may be, but nobody expects a Fabia to perform quite like it does. A Bmw on the other hand, everyone would expect to be quite quick. The Octavia 2 vrs which I now have for sale, whilst that was modified, was very quick, and so much less entertaining it made me sleepy. Resale value isn't an issue with the Fabia, as there is much much more to come yet. Anyhow, this is way off topic and has almost turned into the random Golf 2.0 TD thread. :D

was just asking an all!!.....look what happend?!!:).....so basically what yer saying is that its kack in third?!! and a beemer would hump it!!.......will try and explain all that to my neighbour when he asks again!!:)

k:)

forget the beemer just give him that article or give him the keys for a day (swap cars) see what he thinks.

There are special parties you can go to where you swap car keys.

Colin G told me about them.

Ive heard about them too but as its your neighbour wouldnt it be your door keys over your car keys?

Changin bed linen is easier than cleaning car seats.....

Ducks for cover.

Ahh, well leather is wipe clean.

Mmmmmm - leather bedlinen. :hbomb:

With regards to the Autocar Test, theirs was a long termer. The 7.2s run WAS with a Superchips re-map that Autocar had installed during the long term test. It was one of the milder remaps, 162bhp is was dyno'd at afterwards (137bhp before). I think the best 0-60 run they had before the re-map was 8.3 seconds. I'll need to find the links to the 3 long-term reports! They are on the web somewhere...

Also, out of interest, I came across Top Gear Magazine's original road test of the car, and the reviewer was saying he honestly thought it could be as quick along a proper b-road as a CTR or Focus RS...which may be a bit of an overstatement (unless the CTR/RS driver was pretty average!). I'll see if I can dig that one out too...await some links!

Lewis.

What drugs is he taking.... ?

My CTR would.. make mince meat of my old modified Fabia vRS and that must of been pushing a decent 180hp. At least...

In terms of cornering, The CTR is excellent...

CTR like it a lot but Im not sure I could handle needing a bag full of revs all the time. I very much like the flat floor & great seats, I also like the fact that if in neutral and you floor it there is a limiter so it only revs to 4/5000rpm.

Out of interest when going into a tight corner do you ever change down to 1st to get a bit more acceleration?

No. Because I'm using 169lbs of torque. 8 less than an Octavia... And 200kg lighter.....

I don't need to use the revs? They are there, If I need them, but I can drive it like any other car.

You need to drive one, before commenting properly. They are just like ANY other 2.0 N/A car.

Except the Fabia (did yer see what I did there) ;)

You did that like a true "King".

Well I did drive the old Civic VTI and that was totally guttless under 7,000rpm and then it was all over by 8.5-9krpm.

The test I did was there is a 3 lane road (2 lanes going up hill) and it goes up like this for nearly 2 mils It goes off a round about so I left it in 5th at 30mph and foot to the carpet - a Fiesta 1.25ltr went past and I never caught him up. On the return I changed down to 4th then 3re then 2nd and only then with silly revs did anything happen if its anything like that then IMHO its very unsuitable for the road.

I presume the Octavia vRS MK1 is gutless then too. As it has 8 lbs of torque more than my car. Plus being 200kg heavier..

Yes, the torque figures are peak only, but drive a Civic Type R, the way it should be driven, will make it a quick car.

It's also a comfortable cruiser, and I found leaving it in 6th on a motorway at 60mph, doesn't need to drop a cog.

It will rise to 80mph very quickly.

I presume the Octavia vRS MK1 is gutless then too. .

Nail/head.

Just kidding everyone :P

Ok here are the stats:-

Honda Civic

197bhp @ 7400rpm

145lbf @ 5,900rpm

vRS Mk1

180bhp @5100

148lbf @ 1800rpm

Yes it may only have 3lbf more but the Honda needs 4,100 more revs to achieve this and if you are say driving in a gear @sub 2000rpm in the civic its totally guttless.

It may be fun chasing the red line from time to time but on give & take roads you cruise and I dont think its possible to cruise with the engine thrashing away not very comforting.

Once again. You bring up crappy figures. What more was I expecting?

And er... Since when did the Octavia vRS produce 148 lbs of torque?
