Fabia VRS performance figures

Featured Replies

Ok here are the stats:-

It may be fun chasing the red line from time to time but on give & take roads you cruise and I dont think its possible to cruise with the engine thrashing away not very comforting.

You know the answer. Don't drive one/buy one

The new type R is actually duller than a dull thing, and not reet quick either.

Yes it may only have 3lbf more but the Honda needs 4,100 more revs to achieve this and if you are say driving in a gear @sub 2000rpm in the civic its totally guttless.

I bet your engine's dont last long. If you produce the manufacturers peak figure, everytime you drive a car and at every RPM. ;)

Dont you ever just leave her in 3rd at 70mph then when there is the chance nail the throttle up to the limiter 118mph in 3rd then slam it into 4th and quickly into 5th.

Ah yes the Fiat Coupe's party trick the super long 3rd gear - bye bye to most cars.

Can't say I've ever attempted a 0-60 in my Fabia, and its not something you tend to ever really need to do in real life driving. But I reckon that anything under 8 secs is wildly optimistic, mainly due to the weakest link.... the rubbish first gear.

Where BMW N/A engines excel is being caned.....thrashed good and proper.

They sound great and do pull hard. Trouble is, when you're already moving and you want a burst of acceleration, you have to drop it a couple of cogs and red line it to get the thing going any faster as they lack serious mid range torque like any other N/A petrol below 5000cc's, even with Vanos. :D

The Furby vRS once rolling simply goes.....floor the throttle and up the speedo climbs rapidly with no fuss whatsoever. Yeah sure a 330i would whup you 0-60 every time, and also if he were to thrash the pants off it once rolling, but on a motorway at 60mph and half way up a hill that's really not what you want and not what most drivers would do....they'd just floor it. Under those circumstances (what they call real world) the massive grunt of the TDI is king.

Hills are my favourite......the vRS just flattens them. I've never had another car that can bullet up hills like the Furby can. High revving petrols are so tiresome in comparison.....all revs and noise just to tackle a slight incline or to get any real pace. Yawn. Why bother when you can just leave it in gear, mash the noisy pedal and rocket along with no effort applied.

Not only that, but you go out in the car with the SWMBO. Thrash a petrol and all they do is complain. Boot the vRS and although they can feel the torque they tend to keep a little quieter as you're not revving it's guts out like someone frequenting a McDonalds carpark.

MPG dropping? It has increased with the remap. It increased again last weekend too now it has a hybrid turbo fitted.. It goes further down now when I kick it's head in, but thats to be expected.

Anyhow, I gather you are not a fan of modifying/tuning/remapping?

I was thinking the same thing..... even after tweaking my custom map a bit further after the new clutch and decat I am still getting an avg of 53-56mpg when traveling 200 miles to the lakes...... and that includes a fair bit of play :D

Do you think it increases due to the extra torque and there's less revving required or is it just the trip meter being a little over optimistic as usual. :D

What do you get mpg wise when using the brimming method after a remap?

I recently drove up to Dalwhinnie from Newcastle and back on

 Boyracer ? Grow up. Nail the throttle up to the limiter 118mph ? Sit down, take some deep breaths, think of all the people who want to live happy lives whilst out driving thier cars without being killed by some idiot out in his ***** extension

At last it gets you reading but for me to do that in my car - which it does is like you lot going on about taking the vRS up to the 4500rpm in each gear.

Why the rose tinted glasses for them yet when someone else posts the equivalent you assume boy racer. There is no difference.

OK, link time folks!! As promised. Now I have made a few mistakes in my previous statements, but I'll let you poitn them out...haha...enjoy!

Calm down dear! I don't see him saying he does that on a public highway - do you?

well to say ive never broken the speed limit is a total fib '7 to say i break it in some way every day is the truth but try catching me.

Note not telling by how much either Mr Oink

Pathetic loser  Just as I thought.

Awww, come on chaps! We all behave like hooligans at some time or another...I mean isn't that why we buy a vRS?? Otherwise there would be no reason tom get a vRS over a 1.2 8v  well...other than improved fuel economy :D As long as everybody drives within their ability and to the conditions, all is good.

I agree. But disagree with the "Mr Oink" bit. :thumbdwn:

Erm ..... Yes, the post below yours ?

Coming back to the original point, I've recently discovered that once you get into the section of the speedo where the digits are every 20mph (if you see what I mean), it really is difficult to make further progress. I'd be interested to see whether it's a similar situation for the Ibiza FR, as that's got the same drivetrain, but (appears at least) to be a more aerodynamic shape.

It really was a bit of a disappointment getting to that point, after a decent period of acceleration. I felt like Zorin screaming "More! More POWER!" at his loony geneticist father as he tries to escape in his blimp at the end of View to a Kill.

(I may have been thinking about this a bit too much!!! :o )

Or you could easily work out the max speed in each gear by holding the revs at 3krpm and getting a reading of the speedo then divide this by 2 and multiply that by the max revs available - note however the higher 5th & 6th gears will not be able to rev out due to the fact the car doesnt have enough power to do that.

True, though in 5th you can hit the limiter.

So if my car does 32mph at 3000rpm in 2nd, it can do 76000mph at redline, apparently! BRING IT ON!!! ;):D

I assume Welshy means you should divide the speed by indicated revs, then multiply by redline revs???

Those might be the details, but what he really means is we all need to buy a BMW.

Ah, how silly of me!

Note Ive never owned any BMW - driven some though.
