Fit it

You'll need the drive shafts too and a clutch and flywheel. Also is it from a 2wd or 4wd? If it's from a 4wd you'll need to blank off the transfer box.

Are all the bits you need a straight swap from a Leon Cupra? Shafts etc?

2wd and it

TDI box is a waste of time. 6th would be geared for around 320mph which just isn't gonna happen so you would never even use top gear.

SH!TE..................

I would never have thought the gearing would've been that much higher......

Gearbox anybody????

Just told Pilau to PM you as he was asking about a diesel box:thumbup:

Cheers,

That's certainly how it's geared in our Ibiza. Think about it though, diesels have about half to two thirds the rev range so the gearing will have to be around a one and half to twice as long.

At the end of the day, with a petrol six speed you are always on the gears. You can only just pass 60 in second, which lets face it is a bit ****. Yes the gears are well stacked to keep the motor in the power range, dropping less rpm per change. Mr Wonder said he liked the longer gearing of a five speed and I agree. He wants the 6 speed for strength on the triple shaft and lets face it 6th is a cruising gear. Sounds to me like it will behave like a 5 speed. Could do with asking DaveU about the performance, as it sounds like he's got a similar box. With 320 lb/ft torque, the cars not exactly going to be slow.

Take a look at the HPA motorsport website, regarding the turbo R32. They offer an upgrade on the six speed to longer gearing, to take advantage of the power increase.

I said the Cupra r is the box needed, but all is not lost because the box has longer gearing.

IIRC there is a corrado with a BT and 4wd about that runs a TDI 6 speed and it seems ok...? Not sure if its a stock box though, I suppose doing all that to a 'raqdo, the least you are worried about is a change of final drive!

The only plus to a Diesel box is that its built to take loads of torque so should theoretically be stronger. I still think the Petrol ratios would outweigh that

That's a fair point; theoretically the boxes (diesel and petrol) are the same, if it is that the gears are too long all I need do is change the final drive ratio.

Hopefully there is some light at the end of this bl**dy long dark tunnel!!!!

With this in mind either the Cupra R or Diesel PD drive shafts will work?

Cheers for all your thoughts and advice people it

bill @ badger 5 has(had) a 6 speed dog box with diff for sale iirc.

not sure on fitment(o2j iirc),might be worth a look?

I'm not sure I'd want the gears much longer than I have now with the TT box although a slightly longer 6th for cruising would be nice. I think the TDI gears will be too long though as standard 4th would be geared for 200mph. Saying that though the longer gearing may help with traction on a fwd. The HPA gearing kit does look to be a good compromise and shouldn't hurt acceleration too much however it's very pricey.

I'll fit it and see how it works out. I can always change the final drive ratio for one out of the Cupra R box for a relatively small amount of wonga.

You could easily change the ring and pinion when you fit the diff, as the whole box has to be stripped. I'd check the price of a ring and pinion set though, as I dont think you'll have much change out of
