I've found a button!

I've found a new button!

It's about three quarters of the way down the inside of the pillar between the driver and rear passenger door...

Looks like something to do with the alarm??

Will have to go and dig out the manual later!

It's the ultrasonic inhibitor to prevent the alarm going off if you wish to lock the car with a dog inside for example. The parimetric alarm will continue to operate normally.

Ahh - cool - saves looking in the manual now...:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I believe pressing the lock button once again after the car is locked will disarm the interior monitoring and the deadlocks.

I didnt think this was possible on cars with the interior de-alarm button thingy. I know my Passat has this button to deactivate the interior sensor, and when I press the lock button on the remote a second time it just locks again, and the alarm is still active. I can't lock my car using the fob in such a way to deactivate the deadlocks, to do that I have to use the key in the lock. :)

On my B6 Passat pressing the lock button twice disables the alarm completely, rather than just the interior sensors. But you have to double-click the button quickly to do this. The wording of the manual suggests you can press it once, think "oh I don't want the alarm on" and then press it again. This doesn't work - you have to press twice in quick succession. The little red light doesn't flash when the alarm is off completely.

Sorry beg to differ - by pressing the lock button twice in quick succession activates the deadlock. Full alarm function is activated on the first press. I always press twice and each time the warning LED in the door casing flashes.

Ahem...egg on face if I've got this **** about face lol!!

Nope............

The manual clearly states that pressing the lock button twice disables the deadlocks and interior monitoring.

Mk 1 Octavia: pressing twice activates the deadlocks (there is an extra clunk from the door locks on the second press IIRC)

Mk 2 Octavia: pressing the fob button twice DEACTIVATES the deadlocks AND interior monitoring.

Awww **** - egg on face FFS!!! Thanks for putting me right folks lol!!

From owners manual............. You can de-activate the safe securing system (deadlocking). This is done by locking the vehicle with the key or radio-operated key twice within 2 seconds.

If car isn't deadlocked:

Red LED flashes 2 seconds fast and then every 30 seconds,

Fuel filler cap is unlocked.

HTH

I'm basing this on the manual from my MkII and what I remember from my old mkI

IIRC there was a single "clunk" from the MkI doors upon locking and an extra "clunk" when the lock button was pressed again.

I had a Mk 1 Octavia and the second clunk was the deadlocks deactivating/opening. The Mk1 and Mk 2 both have the same locking system with on press to lock and the sencond press to deactivate deadlocks

OK I was thinking the other way round, I always thought the second press armed the deadlocks

Theres another button there aswell for disabling the Tilt Sensor, it might depend on which of the two alarms you went for ;). Used if the car has to be towed I think :)

Nah, that just makes the local thieves day ;)

Round here the VW/Skoda locks are being screw drivered yet again in the hope of finding pre 2003 locks which break and open all the windows.

They did my 53 Mk1 Octy 3 F-ing times! Still the lock seemed to get cheaper every time it was replaced! Maybe repeat custom deal at Withams?

Still cant think os a situation where you would want the car locked, but not deadlocked:confused:

Phil

The "break the lock to open the windows" trick is a known security problem with early cars :(

The deadlocks should still be active though.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have this button on my offside b pillar as well but I think I do not have an alarm on my Octy Ambient 2.0 Tdi 05/55.

I've sat in it with remote locking activated, waved about like a lunatic, tried to 'break out' even 'break in' and still can't annoy the neighbours.

Is it possible to have this button (which lights up etc.) but NOT have an alarm fitted./

My motor doesn't seem to have much in the way way of even basic extras i.e.. Multi CD or trip multifunctional thingy so an alarm would be nice!

My internal Motion alarm was dodgy...needed a new control unit. I'm not too sure what the best way is for you to find out if it is actually fitted, I'd assume as you have the buttons then it should have one.
