Oh c^%p, this could be expensive

Featured Replies

Smoke, burning smells, oil pressure warning light, car turns over but won't start, no communication with the engine control module and to top it off it ground to a halt less than 1 mile from home so no recovery. :(

Probably plenty but I can't access it. Neither can any of the other modules by the looks of it.

No mate, but a tow slightly further away from home could be good. You got a rope?

Got it recovered to JBS this morning and they've already had a quick look at it for me (cheers fellas ). The ecu isn't dead :D just the power to it is shorting somewhere and blowing fuses. They suspect an electrical short in the main harness as it passes thru the bulkhead but so far haven't tracked it down. I think i'm happier but i guess its still too soon for relief.

And Kev has just been back on the phone, car is now fixed:eek: :D:thumbup:. Apparently, the coil pack on cylinder 4 has melted, melted the connector and caused a short. One new connector and coil pack later, the car is back to life. Absolutely top stuff from JBS, seriously bad stuff from Skoda. I don't think its very good that a failing coil pack could set fire to your car!

At least you now know what the burning smell was, hopefully no more damage will rear its ugly head in the future.

Burning smell accompanied with a generous amount of smoke!
