How fast with a 6 speed box??

Featured Replies

What sort of speeds would I be getting in each gear if i had the 02M TT or Cupra R box in my car?

RPM limiter is set at 7400rpm.

Any advice is welcome:thumbup:

Steve:)

I believe Des has this box, and if I remember right, he could do 180mph without the WRC wing on.

Speeds would be the same as the Cupra R then in theory. Might have some luck looking for the gear ratios of the box on SCN.

Hmmm, unsure. I don't even know if he had that box. It went roughly along the lines of (estimate)

1st = 50mph

2nd = 80mph

3rd = 110mph

4th = 140mph

5th = 160mph

6th = 180mph (+?)

That sounds okay.

I've heard a lot of people saying you can't get much more than 60 in 2nd with the 02M TT/Quattro or Cupra R box....

Confused now....:confused:

That sounds very much like a diesel box. DaveU said he got 150 in fourth if you remember.

Not sure of gear speeds on the TT box as my cars still in bits so I cant check it.

Top Ive had out of mine with a wing is 170 on Tom Tom & it was still just creeping (speedo needle was in the trip window)

The big plus is the ratios which are very evenly spaced, its not 5 gears & an overdrive like some boxes

I agree, the figures that jason posted look like those of a diesel six speed box. I thought that the six speed box 02m box would just have shorter ratios through all the gears to give better accelleration, but 6th gear would be more like your current 5th. This is what my old Boxster was like, 6th gear in that was the same as 5th in the 5 speed box.

Thats right, I was up at Jabba yesterday talking to Micheal about the 6 speed. The 6th gear is the same as a 02J's 5th!!

How did my car look, Ive almost forgotten what it looks like its been there so long, not Jabbas fault I will add !!

Got these from someone off Seatcupra.net.

Leon Cupra R speeds....

1st = 35ish

2nd = 60ish

3rd = 85ish

4th = 105ish

5th = 130ish

6th = 160ish

I'll pass on that gearbox...... I'd be changing gears very 2-3 seconds!!!!

Standard Octavia vRS [mk.i] gearbox (limiter set @ 7000rpm)

1st = 43mph

2nd = 74mph

3rd = 109mph

4th = 140mph

5th = 160mph (+)

Diesel gearbox ratios..... (Speeds might be a touch higher due to my limiter being set @ 7400rpm..?)

1st = 50mph

2nd = 80mph

3rd = 110mph

4th = 140mph

5th = 160mph

6th = 180mph (+?)

I can't see much wrong with those ratios. My IHI give such a good spread of torque from around 3k up to 7+k so it should pull like b!tch regardless of the slightly longer ratios.

I much prefer the longer gears anyway, and the triple shaft 6 speed box should be able to cope with any amount of torque/bhp I’m ever likely to want to put through it, plus the cruising 6th gear would just be a bonus, 90/100mph @ 3k in 6th can't be a bad thing.

I have the TT box in mine and 7400rpm in 6th is 178mph.

Also if the diesel gearbox you are looking at is the same as in our ibiza then from a couple of the gears I know 7400rpm in 4th would be 185mph and in 6th would be 296mph.

90mph in 6th is more like 2krpm in the Ibiza.

90mph is 2k rpm?

What engine you got, the 6 speeds I have seen tend to do 70@2k RPM, which would be more like 260ish mph in 6th.

It's a 130PD with the longer gears like the early Fabia vRS. Anything below 90mph and 6th is useless as even for cruising 5th is more economical as the revs are just too low in 6th.

I had the limiter raised to 7.4k and easily hit 80mph in 2nd gear...with the standard 5 speed box.

The 6 speed is essentially the saem with a very short 1st gear....6th...as already has been said is the same as 5th in the standard box.

What you do get is a stronger box.

I preferred the longer gearing of the 5 speed.....I'd imagine there'd be a lot of changing with the 6-speed.

Can't believe its still there, it was there the last time I was there. A couple of months back i'm sure!! Still looks phat, apart from I can get my head between the tyre and the arch:D Are they still getting your KW's seviced??

Yep, been there over a month, its been trailored to Miltec this week for them to build a new exhaust, KW's are still in ******* Germany, 6 day turnaround, Jabba sent them to KW before easter, couriers got lost, then they appear to have disapeared somewhere in the factory at KW. I had another chat with the guys in Germany this morning & Im promised they are being finished off & despatched today.

Hopefully I will have it back in about 2 weeks :) :) :) I hope someone gets a piccy of it on the stock springs, must look slightly odd

Does anyone know if the diesel and petrol 02M gearbox are physically the same?

Isn't it just a case of mathematics or has science been replaced with my dads bigger than yours?:confused:
