Speedo MPH incraments

Featured Replies

Hi,

Does anybody know why the spedometer in the Fabia VRS TD goes up to 90mph in incraments of 10, then jumps to 110mph and increase in incraments of 20?

Seems daft to me. Not seen it on any other vehicles before.

Cheers,

Fabby.

Octy IIs do it from 80 mph onward. Bit annoying but you get used to it.

It's cause the car is sooooo fast they couldn't fit all of the numbers on!!!

Yes - just to save space, only mildly irratating but you get used to it. Not as if you drive at that speed range all the time anyway :rolleyes: ....well not usually.

The speedo is accurate thought, and if accelerating up to full speed the speedo needle slows down after it passes 90mph, which might give the impression your not going as fast as you really are.

I dont think you will find it is as accurate as you think

check it out against a talex or sat nav ............

the speedo overreads which is probably a good thing ..........

speedo

30mph = 27mph

60mph = 56mph

90mph = 84mph

if you do a search this has been discussed many times

surely when you get up that high, it's not that important - you're doing more than the speed limit regardless of how much.

Whereas lower down it does make a difference.

I just got mt vRS yesterday and had done around 100 miles in it, i gave a mate a shot of driving and he noticed this within 3 miles. i was oblivious until he mentioned it but it does rise slower after 90, which he politely discovered too!

Agree - its been done to death a dozen or so times before! Speedos can be out of callabration one way or the other.

Doing a search will show that there are varying opinions on the accuracy of the speedo, some find it to be very accurate.

The true test for me is to get your passenger to use a stop watch and measure the time taken to travel between two emergency telephones on the motorway. Use cruise control if available. These phones are placed exactly one mile apart. If your doing 60mph, it will take exactly 60 seconds (or 180 secs for three phones) - my speedo is very accurate for this test, although I have done the same test in other cars and found them to be out...usually longer than 60secs.

If you were actually going 56mph, it would take 1min 7 secs per emergency phone.

Any GPS I've ever used has always reported speed a few mph less than what the speedo says...in any car - probably also depends on the GPS unit though.

As mentioned already, if your at the 90mph range in the speedo (and your on a public road) that'd be breaking the speed limit....so this method cannot be recommended for testing at the higher speeds. Doesn't help you much if your on a drag strip etc...

When I first got my Octy I liked to drive on the motorway at an indicated 85! I then realised I was travelling at 90 (I know it was a bit naughty) but it was a surprise anyway.
