Power loss

Featured Replies

Tonight I used my Octavia vRS for the first time today to do a 20 mile round trip. When I set off I took it easy for about 8 miles to let it warm up, once warm I pulled down a slip road onto a dual carriageway and put my foot down (not to the floor, just enough to get up to speed), it felt very sluggish . I didn't think a whole lot of it as I had my girlfriend in the car so I was talking/driving in anti-scare mode rather than listening to the engine and driving normally. On my way home (alone) I decided to have another go so I headed for a dual carriageway and again it felt really sluggish getting up to speed. Off a roundabout in second the revs crept up in first at a reasonable rate but it just didn't pull well at all. I could hear the turbo spooling up OK. After a few miles of roundabouts etc I came to the conclusion that it was not in my head and that power was down quite considerably. I pulled into an industrial estate, gave the usual 30 seconds and then switched off the engine. After a few moments I restarted and set off again - and it was fine  Totally normal again, it pulled hard in every gear as it normally does.

Any idea what this is, or what could cause it? There were no warning lights and it was serviced just over a week ago so all fluid levels are fine. I replaced the MAF sensor and coolant sensor in January and cleaned the throttle body around the same time. It's been running very well up until this incident and is back to its normal self now. I'm wondering if it was just some freak fault which caused the ECU to limit boost or something? I'm not overly worried, more interested.

i have the same problem have taken off the dump valve and put the standard one back on and seem to be ok but am getting a buzzing noise from the abd air filter now and cuts out on occasions. going to inpossible performance to see if they can help.

My Mk2 does this quite a lot. No idea what was wrong with it, but it seems to sort itself out.

It's also extremely sensitive to ambient temperatures. During the day it's completely poo but on a night time when its cooler it's bloomin' quick.
