I reckon you'd be stuck with a flat battery after a pretty short time

I'd imagine the system uses charge stored elsewhere rather than the battery, like the C3 Stop & Start which retains charge in the alternator. If it's below a certain amount the car doesn't power down unless you turn off the engine normally.

I wonder if the new Fabia will have this same technology/similar? Would make an already economical car incredibly economical

Fair enough, but in that case it makes it even more likely in my sceptical mind that unless your driving fits the parameters of the Euro fuel efficiency test specs, you're either lugging extra weight for a system you never use, or lugging extra weight for a system that never gets charged-up enough to work...

But I'm not after an argument personally so I'll just leave it there! ;):D

Thread summary:

Forum troll gets bored.

Forum troll posts in the hope of winding people up.

People get wound up.

Forum troll realises that depreciation is not linear & as usual he's actually talking crap in order to get a rise from other forum members.

Forum troll becomes target of aggression & realises mistake.

Forum troll steers discussion to VAG/BMW engines as usual.

Everyone gets bored & starts slagging troll off.

Thread gets locked.

Welshy, I'm sure in real life you're a decent fella, as are most people on here (probably excluding the women, who I assume are not fellas!) but you post in order to get a rise out of people, not to be informative.

I don't own a Skoda (& when I sold mine my depreciation was 29.6% over 2 years and 33k, that's straight sale to a dealer with 4 bald tyres & a damaged fog lamp, not 4 months ago - kinda proves your figures are a little off doesn't it?) but I still find the tone of this post (and many of your others) to be a little out of line. You consistently post inaccurate information and back it up with easily disprovable 'facts' and you typically get upset with people who are tiring of your attitude.

Yes many people on here love their cars (and rightly so - they're a good car) and do look at them with rose tinted glasses but you post to provoke, and I for one find it tiresome and needless.

JMTPW.

SteVR's a little uncalled for really.

This thread may have gone slightly off topic - but its like having a chat about the Fabia and other options & the future.

Ignoring VAG engines in the discussion is crazy as Skoda source all their engines from VAG. Which of the current line up is Skoda developed? I dont think its any - so discussing current VAg engines is discussing the future Fabia engines.

As far as the BMW engines go - it is stated a lot in the motoring press that BMW make the best engines in the world so using what they produce as a benchmark is common sense.

You post on a forum to have debate id hate to have a discussion with a bunch of yes men. Its like trying to discuss evolution with a creationalist - if they dont like what they hear they get agressive in their response & when challenged with interesting facts they flatly refuse to take the centre ground.

SteVR's a little uncalled for really.

No it's not.

It's summed the whole thing up to a tee.

Well done SteVR's for saying what most of us were thinking

Actually just rereas that personal attack from SteVR's and am wondering why he has assumed (wrongly) that I have

"realises that depreciation is not linear & as usual he's actually talking crap in order to get a rise from other forum members"

um what makes you presume that I have just realised that depreciation is not linear & is in fact in general reducing balance i.e. x% lost of net book value after 1 full period.

& Im not talking "Crap" thats your view and perhaps you need some help getting the grasp of these fairly simple economic terms.

Also do you really think just stating "oh mr x is talking crap" that all the other sheep will believe you? I certainly hope not most people can work things out for themselves and really dont need a dictatorship giving out suggestions like that.

And if its not your cup of tea just iggy my user name and I suggest those who dont have anything valid to add appart from slagging off please iggy again it saves us all a lot of grief.

respect 60 - 0 in 1 post!

I actually thought you was talking sense until now. shame.

It wasn't a personal attack it was just my opinion. I stated that you were probably a nice chap in the real world (and I honestly think you probably are) to add a degree of balance to the post. I just put what I honestly believe to be true, in my honest opinion you are trolling.

I don't do ignoring BTW, imagine what they'd be saying about me!

Yep, I agree too, well done that man. I used to find Welshys' posts amusing, but now I just get bored of reading his repetitive provoking drivel.

It's good to see a little bit of targeted debate but please do remember the forum rules regarding the abuse of other members.

I've not seen anything too worrying yet and I wouldn't want to either but I feel we are teetering on the edge.

So if you want to keep your lively debate going please do keep it tidy and friendly. Perhaps now would be a good time for a group hug, reload your weapons and take your positions for the next round :D

And I appear to have acquired an apostrophe!

What's all this about then? All new cars depreciate quite fast... some slightly less so than others, so what!

exactly, I think some people have too much time on there hands to worry about this, and some think that because they have some sort of excellence in the general topic area that they have to bang on about it as if they were some sort of depreciation god!

buy a car drive it, and if you can afford it, lose money doing it! The majority are english, we love losing, so lets lose money aswell!

Sorry but you would expect a 2.0NA petrol to be faster than a VRS to be honest. Im just saying in comparision to other 2.0 NA around that it is a "poor performer" that all, not saying it has it's advantages, just what I said.

You can't say it's not, the engine is dated! I'm in no doubt it is relaxing to drive with that torque I know the feeling :D

you need to know why the money is going elsewhere thats all IMO

Well. When you test drive a 2.0 ... and have owned one. Then maybe you can give an accurate view of how they are on fuel and performance? Until then ...

I bet Welshy is gutted that you have given up 'da -respec 4 him' ...

I know I would be...

i actually think on this occasion he has been talking sense and your comments were uncalled for. There appear to be several members enjoying this thread and having a debate about it so if it upsets you don't read it.The thread is now progressing to the bmw's are great angle when the threads really start hotting up but the personal abuse is uncalled for .Might start the welshy rant thread so anyone not wanting to read what he is saying knows to stay out.Keep up the good work welshy i find your threads very entertaining and informative.
