We have a rather annoying IT consultant who knows little about IT but a lot about monitoring. He regulars runs to the MD saying how people have downloaded X ammounts of megs in the last 2 weeks etc. The MD doesnt bat an eyelid which, annoys the IT man further :rofl:

So with less than 2 weeks remaining I'd like to beat my 280mb per week record - so if anyone knows of any really big downloads, please pop a link on here ;)

It would be nice to get a few gig in just a few days :rofl:

Look for Linux distributions, they can often be CD-sized...

I seem to remember there's a few gigs of fedora CD's

leave a few different browser windows open, streaming live radio (or big streamed vids) - would that help ?

If (and it's a big 'if') you like electronica / house music, there are some mixes here, recorded at some daft bit rate like 500+kbps - they should eat up some bandwidth!!! :D

look for an mmorpg trial client normally coming in at 4gb ish these days :D.

I was going to suggest Open Office from OpenOffice.org: Home, but at a measly 110MB it hardly seems worth it :P

you could go to one of those bandwidth ckecking sites and set upa quick script to automatically refresh the download page/file

(can't think of any worth adding really, that haven't already been mentioned. But I've found JISC National Mirror Service good for fast, reliable *nix downloads)

I did this to eat up some bandwidth and ended up here www.shibumi.org/EotI but not before several

warnings from my ISP and i also needed several hundred hard drives and a transit van :D

Go for the linux downloads there in one place and 700MB a piece

I'm surprised at this thread, Phil! Does this mean your IT bods have blocked access to your usual source of pics and videos? :confused:

go on that website mate and there is so many downloads to get really huge files aswell

Does he monitor external or access or downloads through your switch port?

If it is the latter just set up a second machine with one of your colleagues, get a few large files on each then start doing full line rate transfers between the two boxes ;)

Just in case you were not sure do you know if he monitors the data going to your machine or the data going to your machine from the internet connection.

If it is just to your machine rather than specifically from the internet, just put some big files on your PC & some big files on a work mates PC.

Then share them using windows shares etc and keep copying them from one machine to the other and back.

This will be at 100Mb/s or 1000Mb/s which should soon rack up your 'score' ;)

So do I, but i have seen it where the person took data from the switch port to the desktop...

would be hilarious if he did and if not i can set up a server with about 36TB of data (admittedly random) on test :rofl:
