Ordered, now what

This will sound a bit dim.

I've order a vRS, due in June/July.

I put down

Can't help on the finance, as I've always paid for my cars with bank loans. I waited several months for both my last two cars to be built, however and didn't have any contact with the dealers until a couple of weeks before the delivery date. Even then, it was just to confirm it would arrive on schedule - all the paperwork was done at handover.

Do you have a quote for the finance and an estimated delivery date on paper? If so, I wouldn't worry too much...

Strange, a finance proposal form should have been completed and that should clearly show you the deposit, (

Just call or pop into the dealer to get things cleared up. :)

He actually phoned back when I was out to get my lunch (typical).

This is a very small family type dealer (Thomson and Potter), and to be honest small dealers up here tend to do things a bit oddly (the Vauxhall and Ford dealers nearby are like this too, all a bit yesteryear). Very different to the way the bigger groups work.

He asked for deposit before he ordered the car, I gave him

(they've changed the excess mileage charge btw)

From what to what?.

5.6 to 7.05ppm.

Just had a look at that deal and it looks fine at 10000 miles/annum..... if you're planning higher mileage it is a very poor deal.

e.g. my car is on a 30k mile/year 3 year lease, I paid no deposit and

The penalty is only payable if you hand the car back at the end of the deal and walk away. Pay the final balance and keep it or trade in and the excess mileage means nothing.

Not true; if you trade in you will need to clear the balloon payment (

SWMBOS's car was on a similar deal with Nissan (preferences). We had the final balloon payment agreed on the day we signed the paperwork 3 years prior.

The car was allowed 10k per annum and it went 10000 over that so we had little choice but to pay the final balance and keep the car.

The final mileage doesn't mean a jot if you intend to pay up and keep the wheels.

You might suffer if you use it to trade in for a new model obviously because of the mileage.

The example deal is just that, an example.

If you know you are going to do 15k, even 30k (there is a max mileage which is usually at most 100k over the deal period) then the finance computer will work it out.

All the annual mileage is linked to is the "Guaranteed Future Value" or balloon.

So if your mileage is high the future value will be lower.

SORRY all...I got my calculations totally out. The final amount paid out will be similar but as others have suggested it would make smoother financial sense to increase the monthly payments if you know your annual mileage will be higher than 10k rather than take the hit in one go at the end to cover the shortfall on the GFMV due to the lower value of the car.

Interestingly Skoda would only go to 25k miles/year whereas most finance houses were happy to go to 30k (or higher)

sorry again

I have also ordered a new Octavia from a small dealer. Although I'm a cash buyer, so no finance agreement to sign, I walked out of the showroom with just a credit card receipt for the deposit (
