vRS Sound proofing foam mod - Seat only?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

You know the soundproofing foam thing you can get from the Seat dealers to fit round the vRS cylinder head? Does this have to be purchased from a Seat dealer or does say the Octy PD130 and Superb PD130 come with it too? All the PD130 engines are the same design so if they do have it fitted then surely it'll be available to fit to the Fabia?

If it's a Skoda part too then perhaps it's cheaper than the Seat equivalent. :D

Chris.

As far as I am aware, any Seat, VW, Skoda, Audi dealer should be able to order the part as long as you have the part number. Which is 038103954G. I bought it for my car and it makes a big difference when cruising along i.e no engine noise

Just looked on VAGCAT...it's actually listed for the Fabia.

Fabia 2004

I wonder if Skoda charge less than Seat do? :D

Quite fancy one for my Ltd Ed. Anyone know if it fits the later BLT engine ?.

What's the difference between the ASR and BLT engines?

EDIT - Just looked it up. The ASZ was euro III and BLT euro IV. :D

I'm hoping the dogbone mount I ordered fits both engines cos the guy at the parts desk quoted BLT. Hmm.....worth a call tomorrow I think before I collect.

Do Skoda charge less than SEAT for this? I've just been quoted

It's well worth doing...... Even my mrs has noticed that my vRS is noticably quieter than hers is.

I would have thought as it isn't officially a skoda part that any skoda dealer would have to charge at least the normal Seat RRP if not more.

Cheers

Dave.

They are fitted as standard to the 1.9 PD Superb.

I've just ordered one from VAGParts should be here in the next couple of days

It's a feckin expensive bit of foam IMHO.

It is at that ! however.. everyone keeps saying good things about it so why not :D

Does anyone know if it will fit a non PD 1.9 from an 02 Octy ?

Hmmmmmm not sure if it would to be honest...... It is cut out to fit around the engine and fit over / around pipework as an exact fit as you can see from this piccy.

I think I'd prefer to close the windows, turn on the aircon and crank up the stereo! That

After driving over the Isle of Wight last week in a T2 Camper, I can honestly say the ASZ never sounded so peaceful

Presumably this would act as a heat insulator too?

That's what I thought. I've actually got it fitted now and it has made a subtle difference to the noise. Cruising is silent and it's taken the edge off the injector clatter at certain rev ranges.

The car does not warm up noticably faster but then again the foam doesn't cover that much of the cylinder head, just the sides. The cover on the top of the engine doesn't have any foam I don't think and so would be the main source of heat loss.

Along with the VW Golf sunglass case and the leather that I've just ordered from Seat Surgeons, the car is coming along nicely. Just got to do Pikey Mod No 1 to the drivers wheel arch and I'll be done for now. :D

LOL. Nice one mate.....I'm keen to see how it's done. Don't really want to use the B&Q vent either as it's a bit too obvious. Is yours the TT liner?

yer i used the tt liner , i am thinking of doing a pikey mod mark 2 and using the black torx screws from skoda instead of the stainless self tappers i have used. might look even more oem then

Oooh will have to see that. That'll be my next mod I think. How much did it set you back?

it was about 18 quid from wakefield audi, quite cheap really considering the size of the thing. then a little dremel action and alls good.:orb_cool:

Well after reading this thread I ordered the SEAT foam noise thingy and I have to say its made a pretty noticable difference.

Nice. The difference is pretty subtle....It doesn't stop the PD from sounding like a tractor but it does dull the clatter a little, especially at about 2k rpm.

Cruising on the m'way is quieter I've found mainly which is where I spend most of my driving time so that's good for me. :D
