flaking bloody wheels!!!

Featured Replies

hi there,

just washing my wheels and found that the finish has came away from the alloy from the back of the spoke, i've only had the wheels 2 months and have taken very good care of them, washed with only soapy water. i did'nt have a chance to phone the place i got them from today, will call tomorrow.

sorry if this is pointsless to most of you, just wondered if anyone has had a similar problem and if the place they got them replaced them?

The paint on my last VRS wheels started to bubble and flake, took it to my dealer and the warranty chap said "no problem" and 3 days later all 4 wheels where replaced under warranty.

Mind you, it was easy to see there was no damage of any kind to any of the wheels and that they still had the original tyres and factory wieghts on. ;)

Thats why it ****ed me off so much as mine dont have a mark on them, apart from the flaking. the warrenty bloke at an unamed skoda dealer (lightclife) said it was due to enviromental factors and basically just fobbed me off.

Now i wonder if they will be getting the order for my dads new octy vrs tdi

Best thing for you to do mate in that situation is contact skoda customer relations and tell them you want to query your local dealerships decisions on the wheels.

I have a citreon berlingo, one of the springs broke whilst driving. It went straight through the tyre. The van is well out of warranty,a year mayb. I contatcted my local citreon dealership and they told me that I would had to pay for the repairs. I then went onto citreon customer relations and the told me they would replace 2 front springs and put a new tyre on for me FOA. :D :D

I know a berlingo van ain't quite the same as a skoda but you get the just of it. :P

 skoda customer service aint worth the cost of the phone call. i will just let another dealer look at it when it goes in for its next service.

Thanks for the advice tho buddy

ps sorry for jacking your thread :D

a friend of mine with a lexus is200 had all 4 of his replaced under warranty for the same problem. Again not the same make but I would take it further than your local dealer. At worst you could try a different dealer and get them to do it??

Cheers

What wheels are they? You say you've had them 2 months, which leads me to think they're aftermarket or upgrades?

the wheels are KEI Speed's, i phoned this morning and they asked for some photos, so i emailed the photos and they should get back to me, the guy said he'll contact the manufacturer and see if its a common problem, to be honest the wheels finish seems quite thin on all wheel in the same area as the effected wheel. i've asked if the wheel can be exchanged because i reckon it would keep happening...fingers crossed. my wheels are on the alloy archive page.

Bit late now, but applying wax to the wheels every now and then will make them last longer.

I'd use a specific wheel sealant, which is design to offer specific protection, stop brake dust sticking etc:

Poorboy's Wheel Sealant
