Does cruise disengage if wheels slip?

Featured Replies

As subject really, driving home this evening with cruise control on set to 60 mph, hit a puddle which made the ASR kick in as the steering wheel jerked, but a bit alarmed to find the cruise didn't disengage! I would have thought it should...

I would have thought it would, as the throttle is cut so it might forget where the throttle was at previously. Oh well

I suppose they woudl get around it by saying "Even when cruise is on, control must be maintained at all times yada yada..."

no it wont, as you have not pressed the brake or clutch pedal. This is why there is a warning to not use cruise when the road is icy, for the same reason. With cruise enabled and on it will try to maintain the road speed regardless of what happens.

'tis true. Quite a lot of accidents happen due to cars (with cruise control set) aqua planing on a flooded motorway.

Take it easy in the wet :)

Out of interest, what would happen if the cruise had previously been set at (say) 70mph, and you engaged it in first?

it'd hit the redline quite quickly ;)

You'd have to be doing at least 19 in first to engage it, so it would already be uncomfortable for the car/driver/passengers before you even touched that switch!

I'm pretty sure that if the traction control activates in my Octy it disengages cruise control. Seem to remember it happening when I hit a patch of standing water on the motorway.
