Fuel Gauge on Zero

Featured Replies

Was'nt intentional but after a bit of a blast I found myself running with 0 miles remaining for around 8 miles before I found a petrol station :o .

I know there is a reserve when it hit's zero but any idea how much further you can go before it will really run out?.

I did it not long ago, hit 0 and i managed about 10 miles, but that was a motorway run.

I think a lot depends on your driving style Steve...

So about none then:rofl:

Seriously though, I would imagine, from previous threads, approx 5-10.

I would change/clean your fuel filter though.

There's only one way to find out :) and it's not usually considered a good thing to do as it sucks up any cr@p from the bottom of the fuel tank.

I managed about 25 miles in my Mondeo once.

I've done 10 miles on 0 range left in the passat, and bottled it!

No Maxidot then Steve? Looks a bit bland! :P

generally they go for about 10 miles before they die... so I think you were close!

Genius.... :P

Remember a few years ago was leaving mums and driving back (70 miles down M1/25).

1/4 tank on my 1.8 RSI Clio, I got to the pump near me with the warning flashing red (extremely low) on the dash, beep every 10 secs and it died as i parked up at the pump!

25 miles of being very worried, and the "You told me to remind you, I reminded you, but oh you knew best...." coming from the Mrs the whole time. :finger:

That was before SHE became a driver, put desiel in her car, ran out herself......:rolleyes:

I've had at least 15 miles from my (old) Octavia TDI 140 when registering zero on the (ahem) Maxidot display. I stopped to refuel with 5 miles left late at night only to find they had no diesel

Had to drive around looking for another garage for what seemed like an hour.

I thought someone once said it syphons from the bottom of the tank anyway? Whats the truth then? Cos I always heard that about stuff in the bottom of the tank

the whole 'crud in bottom of tank' thing is an urban myth

if there was crud in there it would ruin the engine(if it even reached the engine)

  Poor Steve

You don't reset your trip computor then :D

Or you've been driving Miss Daisy :P

Steve! Remember how far I drove from Dunkerque last September, bearing in mind I only had 10 miles range left leaving the ferry.... ;) I think I've pushed it further than anyone else.... ever. :D

Just remenber Clarkson drove that Audi on zero for a good few miles after the zero sign, so I would say the same may apply as they probably use the same instruments to estimate the fuel left.

I got to 20 miles on the Fabis and then bottled it.
