Anyone know what the problem is with taking off DPF? (apart from patching in a bit of pipework and telling the ECU to ignore the DPF sensor null response etc)

Yeah it's in the cat!!!

Unlike the superb often discussed here the PD170 has the DPF as an integral part of the CAT right up near the Turbo. I suppose if somone manufactured a cat without DPF then you might be in a better situation.

Not according to this - it is bolt on

Great news! Removed the DPF on leon fr - SEAT Cupra.net

Interesting..

I was under the impression it was a combined CAT/DPF too.

I think they may have a shock then over at the SEAT forum.

BMN is the 170hp 2.0TDi engine.

BMM is the 140hp 2.0TDi engine.

BLS is a 105hp 1.9TDi engine.

Dave's sig doesn't quite work if you have a quiet mouse pad or touch screen

Well. As I don't. I found it funny...

Sorry Stu,

What are we looking at there? As far as I can see all engine codes come with the Particulate filter, but the PD140 on the octy didn't I thought.

It's the 140 with the BMM engine code which is fitted from 07/2006, only on the 4x4 I think.

The DPF is a nightmare to get out physically. I had to do a turbo on a 170 and to get the DPF out I had to bring the engine forward so it could come out.

Ta Stu...

The does raise the question what did the seat guys remove then...

The DPF and first stage Cat.

Can't I just lay in a couple of yards of 2" diameter copper piping direct from the manifold downpipes ?

(left-overs still lying around after the central heating upgrade)

;)

But if you removed the first stage cat surely that can't be good for things down stream or am I missing something here?

Well it's not good for the environment, but it must be good for reducing back pressure ;)

2" heating pipe?!?!? either you live in a massive mansion or your talking about industrial heating at work.

A straight through exhaust would he highly illegal (with or without cat requirement) - it was a joke.

But still the question still remains - why can't you simply fully remove the DPF ?

I've made a decision, no remaps for my PD170. It's too risky and the car performs pretty well as it is.

So now I can put the money towards some nice new cycling clothing instead :)

Dave.

No one has said you can't and as the guy on with the SEAT has found, you can but it also removes the first stage CAT.

Back Pressure. On a diesel?

OK, so it's only HALF of your CTR rev limit, but when you get a new map that allows full use up to the 4.5k rpm REDLINE it's all relative ;)

That makes me smile... :D

Just remember the internal cylinder friction goes up significantly over 2,000 rpm.

Plus the cylinder charging will be TWICE as much fuel/air at 9k as 4.5k rpm

That's two reasons why high revving engines are not as economical if ragged (damn VVT  - soooo addictive :D )

Goes with any car. Dispite being in it's power band or not. You keep a turbo car on the boil continously. And the fuel will run down also.
