Anyone an expert in Outlook ?

Featured Replies

When Outlook loads at work it shows the Inbox, highlighted at the top is the latest e-mail in (which has an attachment). Outlook then stops responding altogether.

I have a rule set up to move e-mails from this person into a personal folder. This is the third e-mail from them this afternoon and the first 2 were moved OK, although it didn't want to let me open them.

Think that maybe my personal folder is too big (509 MB) and this is my problem.

IT helpdesk best advice is to wait until the morning and try again as the network load will be lighter then.

Anyone got any ideas ??

Thanks

Jane

Try unchecking the box for "automatically download message when viewing in preview pane"

Youll find it under tools, options, read form the top drop downs.

At least it would allow you to delete the messege before it opens up if you dont want to read further.

Turn off the preview window, if you are running exchange server the rule to move a message from one folder to another is performed by outlook, so this wont happen till outlook starts.

If using exchange, another option is to grant someone delegate rights to your inbox, have them open your inbox and delete/move the message for you. Then remove the rights, or ask a systems admin to do this for you.

Does your outlook work from an exchange server? or are all your emails stored in a .pst file?

If its a .pst, try using a little utility called scanpst. it should be hidden away in your outlook directory or it can be downloaded from the microsoft website. it scans the file for corruptions and problems that may not be immediately visable. it also rearranges the file to be more efficient (have you ever noticed that the file doesnt get any smaller when you delete emails?)

hope this helps :)

Thanks for all the interest and help Guys,

Unfortunately as soon as Outlook loads up it freezes so I can't get to any of the menu toolbars :( so that rules out a couple of options.

Allowing someone else access is a good idea though, might give that a whirl. Also like the sound of scanpst, not heard of that before !

Left my PC copying the pst file from a network drive to my local disk, had 122 minutes to go when I left.

Will let you know if I get it working.

Cheers

Jane

Another option is to do a search for outcmd.dat and delete it.. usually works for outlook starting up crashes :)
